Exclamation is BSNL cheating with 2-8 night unlimited?

For some time now i have not been able to download anything from rapidshare/megaupload or even the private torrents during the night unlimited 2-8 period. :wall:

During the day time the speed is good as dls are 1.7-1.9mbps. But exactly after 2 to 2.30am the internet speed justs slows down to a crawling speed of just <56kbps. the latency rise from the average 300ms to 1500ms for all sites. treaceroutes to various sites like google yahoo show that latency is high (1200ms) at the international gateway of either Tata(VSNL) or Bharthi (Airtel). After 8am everything limps back to normal.. why is it so?

And one more thing i have observed for the past few months is that the in daytime in each session the wan channel - (can be found in modem summary page) the gateway that my modem is assigned changes just like the dynamic ip. But during the time of 1am to 8am despite numerous session changes only the dynamic ip changes and not the gateway. I am getting connected to the same gateway for the past 4 months during this 1am-8am period. is bsnl doing some sneaky things like using a software to restrct the traffic to one choked gateway during the free night unlimited 2-8 period.

if it is true then how ethical it is for bsnl to offer free night unlimted on one hand and with the other hand take it away with this restriction on traffic.

could anybody clarify me on this?

..Please test speed at speedtest.net a distant server say Sydney.
....Day time and 3AM or 7AM. Post links or results.
.....For Rapidshare : Are you a Premium user ?
    ......
day time the speed is good as dls are 1.7-1.9mbps
............You seem to have Home 500 tariff plans ( speed upto 2 Mbps)
..............with night usage free D/l between 2AM and 8 AM .

    Exclamation

    Thanks mr.murugan for ur concern.

I have been facing the problem of worst speed i have ever seen during the night unlimited 2-8 period for the past 2 months. Been using bsnl dataone for 3+years in teh Home 500 plan. this problem has been brought to the notice of the DGM (NP) BSNL Bangalore several times. The attitude of the DGM (NP) BSNL Bangalore is just horrible and unprofessional. He continously argues that it is the contention ratio of 50:1 that creates such slow speeds and it is not possible to give even 256kbps. :nono:

Since bsnl is failing to provide even 12.5% of the advertised speed I would definitely call it cheating as it's customer is provided with a substandard service and a partial service is being provided despite getting the full amount of 500/month. Can u tell what will u call this other than "cheating"?

i hope u will take up this issue at your level and the problem is sorted out at the earliest. NOw this matter has been brought to the notice of concerned authorities of BSNL including the PGM of BSNL BGTD.

I have already reported the matter to the TRAI in email but whether they will read these emails or not is a different issue. I am already in touch with various consumer forums who are advising me to first exhaust all the avenues with the perview of the bsnl's customer grievence cell and if it is still not solved, lodge a case in the consumer court. If BSNL does not give me even the 256kbps during the night unlimted i will be lodging a case in the consumer court for sure. :33:

I have the Home 500 2 mbps plan.with speedtest.net (US/UK/HK) the speed ranges b/w 41~54kbps and latency is 1500+ms during the night time. The speed is b/w 1mbps~1.7mbps during day time.

yes. i am a premium user of RS (3 yrs) and Megaupload (2 yrs).

you can tell to BSNL DGM that
    TRAI guideline about broadband

“An ‘always-on' data connection that is able to support interactive services including Internet access and has the capability of the minimum download speed of 256 kilo bits per second (kbps) to an individual subscriber from the Point Of Presence (POP) of the service provider intending to provide Broadband service where multiple such individual Broadband connections are aggregated and the subscriber is able to access these interactive services including the Internet through this POP. The interactive services will exclude any services for which a separate licence is specifically required, for example, real-time voice transmission, except to the extent that it is presently permitted under ISP licence with Internet Telephony.”

Dude, Don't say BSNL cheats. It never cheats. May be their service is not upto the mark. I am a broadband user of BSNL from the past 3 years. I never had these kind of problems. One more thing is that after 3 years I have got one more connection 500C (earlier also had the same) and I am able to download nearly 2gb between 2 pm to 8 pm. Try this: Preferred DNS server 192.168.1.1 and see the difference

Perhaps you may not call restriction on traffic. Even during that time the speed test to the POP as indicated by Rupu would be at least 256kbps ( kilo bits per sec). trying to test a speed with an international site, and attributing all the latency thereon to the BSNL or any local ISP alone would not be logical i fear.
If the day traafic hour delaying your journey to office is called cheating by the local Muncipality/corporations, then the congestion and slow down during the 02 to 08 for those seeking free night service also might amount to cheating!! what can any ISP do about the congestion on international scnario? let us study. BTW, there are constant rate services by BSNL like Home 1200 with an assured speed of 256 or 512 (need to check). some friends say this this phenomenon is not there on those services.

How ever it is not charged by BSNL, except that you waste power supply and pay for it. I remember the " energy can neither be created nor....."
as such, nothing comes free in any society.

There are many others reporting the same problem. May be some error from BSNL side.

Having the same problems with BSNL home 500 for the past 4 months, the only explanation I can see is that BSNL is trying to even out the speeds to everyone..... at the expense of some guys not getting the full speeds........ :32:
