Default BSNL MODEM Dataone:Wired OR Wireless ?

    Hi
I am using BSNL dataone - Home 500 plan and i have rented wired MODEM - Type - I. I am getting quite good speed. Now i am planning to buy the Dataone MODEM from BSNL.

I need suggestion whether to go for the Wired MODEM(Type - I) or the Wireless MODEM (Type - II) of BSNL. i know wireless MODEM is wifi and i can use it for the Laptop anywhere in the home. But can you tell me how is the experiece of the people who have already using wireless BSNL modem, till what distance wireless MODEM is effective ?

How is the connectivity, speed and performance of BSNL wireless modem to that of wired modem ?

Also what is difference between BSNL Modem Types - I and III AND Type - II and IV

    thanks and regards
    Aakash

I guess type III and type IV modem has 4 ethernet ports... Only difference is that type IV modem is wi-fi capable also... I would recommend to buy either type II or type IV modem depending upon ur future need... cuz the price BSNL is asking is very low... infact its a steal...

I think they give one year warranty... But its useless cuz of the red tape... U might get it back after ur warranty expires... If u face any problem with ur adapter, try giving it to an electrician... If its the modem, then any local electronics shop... who repair TV, Transistors etc...

I had asked for type 4 modem when submitting my application. BSNL guys said they don't have one. However the modem delivered to me had 4 ethernet ports and wifi. Isn't it type 4

Why are modem type 2 and 4 priced the same ?
Modem 2 has only one ethernet port.

Type II modem has one USB and wi-fi but no ethernet port. Type IV has 4 ethernet ports and wi-fi, no USB. Basically the main cost is the wi-fi circuits - hence no price difference.

What? You do not know what is USB? Too lengthy to explain here. Do a wikipedia search - you will get all the info.

Type II modem has usb, wi-fi, and one ethernet as well... I'm using it... I guess Type IV also has all the things... except that it has 4 ethernet ports... don't know why the price is same now... but when I purchased type IV was costlier...

    @paradeepBM
    Thread posts No 10 onwards.
What is USB ? What can we connect it to ?
Probably your query refers to Post No . 10.

Presume, you meant the USB port in a modem.A cable from here, can go ONLY to the computer's USB Port.
You cannot connect any other device/s there.

You can use the modem's USB port to connect to the computer USB Port, and with proper drivers, have an
    internet connection.

Mostly some modems come with BOTH USB and LAN ports. and we can connect two computers using a single modem.
If you don't have an ethernet card ( Usually PCI card)
    LAN cannot be used.

The same way you connect your Keyboard/mice/camera etc
an ADSL modem can be also connected.

Another USB modem : used to surf in WIFI mode.

    Following for reference .
Just about any computer that you buy today comes with oneor more Universal Serial Bus connectors on the back.
These USB connectors let you attach everything from mice
to printers to your computer quickly and easily.

The operating system supports USB as well, so the
installation of the device drivers is quick and easy, too.
Compared to other ways of connecting devices to your

computer (including parallel ports, serial ports and special cardsthat you install inside the computer's case),
    USB devices are incredibly simple!

In this article, we will look at USB ports from both
a user and a technical standpoint. You will learn why
the USB system is so flexible and how it is able to
support so many devices so easily -- it's truly an amazing system!

Anyone who has been around computers for more than two or three years knows the problem that the Universal Serial Bus is trying to solve -- in the past, connecting devices to
computers has been a real headache!
    etc

Doesnt the modem come with an adapter? The older Huawei modems used to come with an adapter.
