    Unhappy What is this??

My bsnl bb connection has been erratic over the last few days. Now when I finally got connected, my browsing speed was way too slow. So I did a speed test and the results astound me. First time it showed a download speed of 27kb/s and upload of 180kb/s.

To my knowledge bsnl bb gives upload speed around 40kb/s and download speed of 256kb/s. So what happened to my connection?

from where did you check speed of your connection and if you are getting such a slow speed then it may a fault on your line otherwise it is very much possible that your splitter is faulty or there is a problem with the physical setup of broadband... please check and update.

I tested it at "www dslreports com". It has so far given me accurate results. I tried to post screenshots but forum didn't allow it.

I do believe that it is a problem with splitter, but how do I confirm?

otherwise you can run a speedtest on speedtest.net and then can share the url here

you can get a new splitter and try changing it and then call your ISP for a line test so that they can give you a clear picture, please update your modem details here and check in modem status that what line rate you are getting on modem/router

Disconnect all phones and connect RJ11 from phone
Junction to Modem RJ11 port DIRECT and
    compare SNR/ATTN.

Appears your Line is bad. SNR not enough for
a stable connection. Attn D/L is also high.
or connect ALL Phones after the ADSL splitter.

    Try Dr TCP from
Download DrTCP 0.21 - DR TCP - a internet speed connection optimizer. - Softpedia
and initially use default values. ( Not useful for Vista OS)
