Default browsing speed slow; downloading around 200 KB/ps why?

I have home 500 BSNL plan at home. My modem is ut300r2u. I have set my settings to bridge mode. Even though my download speed quite ok(around 200 KB/ps), the browsing speed is not good. Sometimes connectivity just stops, sometimes sites like google dosn't open etc. at this time, if try to access the modem page(192.1.1.1) it doesn't open. But most of the times, I have solved this by again switching off and switching on the modem. Why is it so?

In my office I have MTNL connection and even though the download speed is very low(around 56KB/ps), the browsing speeds is lightning fast. why?

I am connected through ethernet only.

I have tried opendns servers also. No improvment.

I feel there is something to do with the BSNL servers or the telephone. I have checked the telephone line. It seems ok. I may have to check by using another modem. probably modem may not be working properly.

Did you try different browsers. Try FireFox and Opera.
