Rep Power: 0 | just dmz your router. This is usually under nat settings in you router config. Forwarding a few ports will not work i think. As far as i know ftp requires a lot more open ports than 50000-50028. If you use dmz all the traffic from internet will be forwarded to your comp instead of modem intercepting it. Thats what i did. I have set up a lot of servers using linux to act as ftp servers. they all work fine with dmz. I have not tried port forwarding though. |

Rep Power: 0 | if you want to access your ftpserver behind the router, the port you have to forward is 21 only if your server is running for this port (default). just configure your modem for ftpserver ip and the port and you are done. be sure about the usename and password you are providing. before attempting to this you can check your port status from T1 Prices for T1 Lines From All The Top T1 Providers. for this initially forward port for non existing ip in your lan.and see the result (this will be not responding if it has been forwarded) at T1 Prices for T1 Lines From All The Top T1 Providers and than forward it for ftpserver IP ( now you will get responding)...by this way you will know the cause. |

Rep Power: 0 | port 21 is not enough, it the command port. This means all the commands that you type in your ftp client will be sent down this port. When you do the actual transfering files. FTP will use a different port. Its also weird it uses different ports for each file you transfer. This is to avoid collision. Actually you can look in to some alternative or ftp mods that are out there. eg. TFTP. There are some that use one command port and one data port. |

Rep Power: 2 | before you port forward, you need to ensure that FTP access is disabled on your modem.. open http://192.168.1.1 ..and look for that option, it should be there under Remote administration or remote access or whatever... |

Rep Power: 0 | yep, tried. but the page is not accessible. i think this "192.168.1.1/scsrvcntr.cmd?action=view" works only on 840/841/880. |
