certain routers have ftp access. so login to http://192.168.1.1 .. and ensure that ftp access of router is disabled somewhere under REMOTE ADMINISTRATION

enter the username and password as admin when you connect to your ftp server.. does it connect successfully?? try connecting to the ftp server with your router username and password..

    Modem: Huawei AX MT 800
    Problem: FTP server.

See whether you get another option DDNS
    under Advanced DNS column.
    try this after opening modem.
    192.168.1.1/ddnsmgr.cmd

Post Device status page for FW update if required.

    For reference I gave MT841 .
You have said it is not Mt 800. Then you
should post the details asked for.
You have not confirmed whether you got
ddns option in Mt 800., nor posted the Device status page.
it's getting on my nerves now.
I could give you the link only after checking your present FW version.

its strange that you said that your ftp works even after you disable ftp server..are you trying to connect to your ftp server from outside your network?? i.e. not from any computer in your home..

yes, tried it form my friend place.
it was later found that it was the routers FTP
which is giving the prompt, but not the ftp server
    running on PC/SYSTEM.

how do i disable the "router's FTP" login ?

    Default just use dmz

just dmz your router. This is usually under nat settings in you router config. Forwarding a few ports will not work i think. As far as i know ftp requires a lot more open ports than 50000-50028. If you use dmz all the traffic from internet will be forwarded to your comp instead of modem intercepting it. Thats what i did. I have set up a lot of servers using linux to act as ftp servers. they all work fine with dmz. I have not tried port forwarding though.

if you want to access your ftpserver behind the router, the port you have to forward is 21 only if your server is running for this port (default).
just configure your modem for ftpserver ip and the port and you are done.
be sure about the usename and password you are providing.
before attempting to this you can check your port status from T1 Prices for T1 Lines From All The Top T1 Providers.
for this initially forward port for non existing ip in your lan.and see the result (this will be not responding if it has been forwarded) at T1 Prices for T1 Lines From All The Top T1 Providers and than forward it for ftpserver IP ( now you will get responding)...by this way you will know the cause.

port 21 is not enough, it the command port. This means all the commands that you type in your ftp client will be sent down this port. When you do the actual transfering files. FTP will use a different port. Its also weird it uses different ports for each file you transfer. This is to avoid collision. Actually you can look in to some alternative or ftp mods that are out there. eg. TFTP. There are some that use one command port and one data port.

before you port forward, you need to ensure that FTP access is disabled on your modem.. open http://192.168.1.1 ..and look for that option, it should be there under Remote administration or remote access or whatever...

same thing is happening in the other modem too.
the other modem has ddns built in.
have done port forward/redirect, added anew virtual server
and put on DMZ. but, still the same error. (router ftp login)

yep, tried. but the page is not accessible.
    i think this "192.168.1.1/scsrvcntr.cmd?action=view"
    works only on 840/841/880.

i searched for this issue & came up with some info which might be useful.

ProFTPd, Disabling the Passive Mode - Neowin Forums
Set proftpd to use a specific range for its passive ports
    PassivePorts
    PassivePorts 49152 65534
I wold not use such a large range.. You only need a range large enough to handle the number of concurrent users you might have.. Something like 65000 65050 should be more than enough.
Now forward this range on your router to your ftp server. Done!
it seems like you have to use passive ftp connection settings & range can be chosen depending upon the no. of users you expect to connect to your ftp server.this range must be within the range of passive ports which your ftp server program uses & you then have to forward this range from your router.

    some other links---
Beginners Guides: Setting up an FTP Server in Windows XP - PCSTATS.com
Setting up home ftp - stuck at the router.
    http://www.techsupportforum.com/micr...ar-router.html

also disable SPI/firewall option in router to try.

Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?
