The BSNL, Balasore division, has geared up to launch broad band Internet service and other services in order to compete with other players .
The broad band service with 72 ports for Balasore and 24 ports for Bhadrak will be available within a month and for the defence it would provide separate lease lines.
While there were general complaints regarding the poor Internet service from the users, the industrial houses too raised concern stating that the district, which is a preferred destination for the investors, lacks the minimum technological support in respect to telecommunication.
“We are in the process of addressing all the problems,” said the general manager Mr B Kar. He added that not only the department was working to provide high speed Internet service but also actively pursuing capacity augmentation .
“Ten thousand land lines and 6,500 MSC base WLL(high power) telephone connections would be available soon in the district,” he informed .
The MSC WLL service will be a unique one, which will be similar to those of Reliance Infocom and others , but the rate would be competitive said Mr Kar. He added that for better communication, the erection of towers at Balasore, Ayodhya, Basta, Jaleswar and Dehurda was on progress .
For effective service of mobile phones the department will enhance its towers ~BTS~ to 50 from existing 28.
Stating that the department at times is not able to provide service due to unstable power supply (440V ,50 Hz) and frequent cable cuts during widening of NH besides thieves menace, Mr Kar claimed that due to the latter reason , BSNL loses nearly Rs 6 lakh per annum.
