Hi everyone,

Skype, compared to Yahoo appears to take more bandwidth recently. I have a history of about one hour of Skype usage only taking nearly 15-16 mb. That was when I got connection first in last August and the following month.

Later, we had virus within the system due to an expired Anti-Virus. But, after fixing it, we were extremely careful with controlling our usage so that we since started to use Yahoo quite often.

Now, only yesterday, after using Skype one hour for testing its usage, we found MB recorded around 42mb!!! Still with no improvement against Yahoo.
Our PC-to-PC Yahoo has been back to normal after fixing the Virus problems.

The same hour of Yahoo usage took nearly 11 - 13 mb only for yesterday!!!!

Now, please tell me if there is any way of bringing Skype usage down to normal, I mean, any adjustment in Skype is available to do it.

Your valued reply should be extremely helpful to users like me.

Then, it should mean the bandwidth should keep increasing with day by day use?

my previous records showed less for one hour use and now, the same period of use became twice or thrice times more, how come?

maybe when youre using the skype something is running in backgrnd like system auto update, do the test again but this time switch off all applications which use internet then go to Start>run and type cmd then type netstat in dos pane to see if anything is connected if nothing connected then launch skype and record bandwidth.

Skype is good I agree, but Yahoo Voice is not at all bad either.

a) For pure voice, I did not find Skype leaps and bounds above Yahoo Voice - I use both services.
b) For Video, I find Skype much better.

Dear subhadeepgayen,

please find attached screenshot of netstat I took by closing all the running programs.

I keep the Avast update on, which only should be running while taking this netstat.

I am unable to make anything out of this image. So, please help me understand the problem and solve.
