Rep Power: 0 | Dear Friends, As I was told by a Gentleman in reply to one of my previous post regarding Anti-virus, I had downloaded and installed Avast Home Edition and have since had no problems of Anti-virus. I also keep it updated very often now. But, nowadays, when I do scanning of both local disks; the Avast is taking too long to finish the process. While trying a full scan, it almost hangs and shows just 1-2% as finished even after one hour of scanning attempt. Then, trying a scan of local disks was attempted and though successfully done the process, it too took more than 1-1/2 hour to finish. Kindly help me understand this issue and advise on any steps for improving this situation with Avast. Best regards ahmk Yeah, now I remember. It was Just4kix who suggested me for Avast and even offered me further assistance. I do hope he would lend me a helping hand this time too. ahmk Last edited by ahmk; 30-11-2008 at 04:49 PM. Rep Power: 3 | There are many reasons for slow virus scan. It might not be the fault of the Antivirus. Use Ccleaner to clean and use Defraggler or any Disk Defragmenter to check and defrag your system. Also use Disk Cleanup utility in Windows to clean up old files in the system. And try scanning again. BTW. It was me who recommended Avast Home Edition to you. I only recommended it because I got good results from it than any other Antivirus I have used. Bandwidth back to normal, wonderful!!!!!

Rep Power: 0 | Thanx Archer, I do not keep my post history and that's why I could not remember you. Sorry for that. Anyway, I have already got CCleaner and done cleaning many times. But, let me know whatelse I should do to get it faster by running CCleaner. Defragmentation and all seem to take too long and I would like something which I can do with CCleaner to get Avast scanning faster. Please advise. Thanx again a lot ahmk |

Rep Power: 3 | Are you saying Avast virus scanning is slower than before ? First thing is Avast virus scanning will take longer than many other antivirus softwares because it scans more deeper than the others. You really don't need to scan for virus when using Avast, because it will automatically detect any virus in your system that could cause trouble. Even if you have an inactive virus in the system, when you try to access it Avast will warn you. But if you really want, you can do it when you are not using the system. BTW.System maintenance is really troublesome but is important. De-fragmenting is also important as virus scanning. |

Rep Power: 3 | If you have a firewall software, it will block all unauthorized/unneeded incoming and outgoing connections. Or it will ask your permission before allowing that program to access internet. No program will be able to connect to internet without you knowing it. |
