    Default My BSNL broadband

I have been using BSNL broadband for the last six months. My plan at the time of starting was Home250 plan. Later on since November, I switched over to Home500C. I would like to know from the senior members the following:

    1. What is the maximum usage free allowed in this plan excluding noght unlimited (2 am to 8 am)? Is it 1.5 GB or 2.5 GB?

    2. I use torrents to download during night. I get on an average something around 32kBps download speed. Is this the optimum speed or can I improve the speed?

    3. Is the Dataone manager application provided in this forum compatible with Vista also?

    Thanks mates!

    1. 1.5 GB free per month excluding nt unlimited for Home500c.
    2. I have the same plan and download at 220kBps during nt . this is the speed u should get too. try dloding multiple torrents so they together can take the total bandwidth.

    1. As Evander said, the limit of Home 500 C is 1.5 GB. The other plan is Home 500 C+ which has a usage limit of 2.5 GB. Many people confuse between the two plans. The major difference between the two plans are:

    Home 500 C
    • Dowload/Upload (Usage) limit = 1.5 GB
    • Free voice call = 175
    • Monthly charges = Rs. 500 + taxes
    Home 500 C+
    • Dowload/Upload (Usage) limit = 2.5 GB
    • Free voice call = 50
    • Monthly charges = Rs. 600 + taxes

    2. You should expect at least 200 kB/s in Torrents. But for that some pointers:
    • Torrent Port must be forwarded. In uTorrent, you will get a green tick mark in the status line, if this is OK. Else (if your port is not forwarded) you will get a yellow exclaimation mark.
    • Your torrent must have lot of seeds - at least 10+.
    • And, as Evander said, download at least two/three torrents at a time to make full use of available bandwidth.
    • Refer to this articles:
    1. Torrents and Port Fowarding Guide
    2. Automatic rebooting of router at 2 AM and 8 AM

    3. DataOne Manager: I believe that this does not work for new BSNL IP addresses, viz., Ip addresses 117.x.x.x. But I cannot verify and say for certain as I use my own method.

Please submit a written application in duplicate to BSNL officer at your exchange. Take a received date/signature/stamp on the duplicate.

Plan change usually takes 3 to 7 days.

You should log in the BSNL portal to check whether the plan change has take place ("My orders" link). The status of the request must state as "Provisioned". When it says so, the plan change is effective.

Note that when plan change occurs, all usage/charges, etc. are apportioned for that month.
