Thread: wierd problem

hi everybody

really facing a wierd problem...i was using the PPPoe mode and now switched to bridge where the modem is always on

however in this mode none of the yahoo sites work on my laptop..but the surprising part is if i connect my cell through the wlan the yahoo sites work. run a thorough check for virus but didnt find any..also when i switched back to the PPPoe mode (where i need to dial to connect to the net) everything works just fine...pls could somebody help

p.s. i need to use the "always on" connection because i want to simultaneously use the net in 2 connections

you mean change from bridge to pppoe(always on).in your modem settings look fot MTU value(usually under LAN) & set it to 1492.if still no success try lower values like 1460,1452 etc.

I request you to please change the name of your thread as this Title wierd problem is not making any sence.

if yahoo sites are not working then please try to ping those sites and see if you are getting a reply or not and if you are getting the reply then please try to optimize your Internet Explorer and try to access these sites on any other web browser too like firefox or opera.

otherwise it may be a problem with your firewall, do try to access yahoo after disableing your firewall.

you can change MTU of your router to 1492, 1452 or 1400. this can help you.

1.Please mention your modem model.

2. If WA3002-G4, check settings here,

3.MTU change download DrTCP from
DRTCP: How do I use it, & what are all these settings?
Use default values and then change.

4. Kindly post ipconfig/all data ,
if still problem not solved.
START RUN type cmd type ipconfig/all

5.Also confirm, whether , you use the lap top
in LAN mode ( Rj45 from modem to ethernet port of laptop)
or in wifi mode.

also try opendns servers - 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220

firstly i am real sorry dont know how to change the name of the thread otherwise would have done it immediately
now for the problem..not yet solved.. i am using a SL2-141
tried changing the settings but could not find where MTU is located
attached is the ipconfig data
would be great if some one could help
would like to once again mention that the only problem i am facing is that my WAN is not working when i put the username and password in the modem

MTU column may not be available in sl2_141.

you can change MTU value in windows itself ..This should help Prashanth Speaks-Technology and Life: How To Change MTU Values In Windows

rohit the problem from your DNS, I think your router canot set the DNS automatically from the BSNL ISP. I think you have to set the DNS by manually. try to set the DNS 218.248.240.208 and 218.248.240.79
If you dont fiend the DNS settings on your ADSL Router then go to your Lan Properties on your operating system.
Set the IP 192.168.1.2
Subnet musk 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway 192.168.1.1 ( or put the gateway what you use )
Preferred DNS 218.248.240.208
Alternate DNS 218.248.240.79

I think page should be open

before do anything change first cheak this address, is it opening or not,this is the address of yahoo, ttp://209.191.93.52/]Yahoo! ttp://202.43.219.47/ if this page opening then the problem from your DNS settings
