i am from chennai,l its terribly slow here as well
There could be several reasons for a slow connection. Your connection is a linear path through several devices and any disturbance or irregularity in any of the devices or settings could cause such.
ISP ------ (cable/phone line) ---- (Filter) ---- modem/router ---- NIC ---- (software firewall) --- browser
Check your browser settings first. If you are using IE try deleting cookies and cache and limit it to about 32MB or 64MB. Unload/disable all third party add-ons. In IE7 you could go to Internet options>>Advanced>>Reset>>Reset>>Close>>OK which will reset IE7 to it's manufacturer defaults and I've come across situations where by doing just this resolves the problem.
Next you could try and bypass any software firewall on the PC. Try disabling it or even uninstalling it (if you have the installer and license keys backed up). You could even try rebooting your PC in Safe Mode with Networking.
Still no go? - check your IP settings. Go to START>>RUN>>CMD (for Vista START>>START SEARCH>>CMD) and hit enter to bring up the command prompt. Do "ipconfig" (without the quotes and see if you are getting proper IPs for your connection). If you get proper IPs then try "ping yahoo.com -n 10" and see if you have any packet loss. If you do, then it most probably is an ISP line problem. Try a power cycle - turn of the modem, unplug the cables from the back - wait about ten seconds and plug them back in and turn the modem back on. Try the ping again and see if that helps.
ADSL subscribers could even try bypassng the DSL Filter and see if the speed improves - could be a possible filter issue.
If these steps dont resolve your problem - it's most probably something which only your ISP can fix.
at first check your speed at Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test
post the result
May be possible reason is either ISP or firewall software for this slow speed you can change your DNS also
First cheak your speed at speedtest.net
You have home 500 so the speed will shown in the speedtest 1700Kbps to 1800Kbps
If the speed shows slow then cheak your phone line. If some noise disturbance is there this problem can arive
Go to your ADSL Configaration web page and chek the speed. The speed should be at leat 256Kbps Up and 2048Kbps down if the speed shows higher then good but if the speed shows slow what I mention then your phone line have some problem.
try changing your DNS servers to opendns - 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 Prashanth Speaks-Technology and Life: How To Configure(Setup) Or Change Your DNS servers(Opendns) In Windows
even after changing DNS no luck really, from 2-5 am its almost at snails pace
Changing DNS will not increase Broadband speed. You should ask Customer Care about this.
