| I got the BSNL broadband connection a couple of days back. Modem i bought is type II (Huawei Quidway WA1003A). The problem i face is that i have to keep my PC in a room where there is no telelphone jack! I cannot keep in the hall (where there is a telephone jack) for obvious reasons. Hence, i will have to keep the Type II modem in the hall (where there is a telephone jack) and my PC in a room. Now, i need to configure my PC to access the internet. I do not want to run lengthy ethernet/USB cable from my hall to the room. Other option available is wireless. My PC does have wireless network adapter (Linksys). Can anyone tell me how to configure the Type II modem and my PC so that i can access internet from my PC through wireless connection? Do i need to buy any extra equipment? I think the Type II modem is also a router/access point and don't think will have to buy any extra equipment.e |

| It is quite possible and its easy too. Just follow the steps outlined by BSNL for configuring wi-fi. The problem could be with your PC wireless configuration. Are you using WEP key for security purposes? If you use wrong WEP key, then the modem behaves exactly the same way as you are observing. Disable wireless security and check. If it works without wireless security then its definitely a problem at your PC end. If you are using Linksys, you need to enter the WEP key in the "WEP Key" field and NOT in the "Passphrase" field. "Passphrase" field is applicable ONLY to linksys products. |

Basic Settings SSID: <choose any name that you like, e.g. disharoy_network> SSID Broadcast: Enabled Click on 'Apply' or 'Save Settings' button. Wireless Security Settings Wireless Security: Enabled Security Type or Method: WPA-PSK Algorithm: TKIP WPA Shared Key: <enter a very long (20+ chars) alpha-numeric key with special characters> Make a note of the WPA Shared Key. This will be required later on to connect your PC/laptop to the Wireless network Click on 'Apply' or 'Save Settings' button. Save & Reboot Finally go to the section where it says 'Save Settings and Reboot'. This is important so that all settings are permanently stored in the router's flash memory.
