Question BSNL broadband disconnecting every few minutes

    Hello,

I have got bsnl broadband connection a week back.
    it is PPPoE connection.

It has been continuously getting disconnected for every few minutes.

Though it shows that internet is connected in the windows task bar, no sites open after a few minutes of connecting the internet.
So, i understand that internet is disconnecting for every few minutes.

Whatever i do, i cannot reconnect the internet.
I have to restart my system to connect internet again.

i have set the hang before idle time to 'never'.
I have also set thunderbird to check for new emails every one minute.

    I am using DNA-A211-I modem

I have contacted the BSNL exchange people.
They asked me to check for viruses.
I have checked the system and all hard drives, operating system with latest version of avast anti virus.
    I didnt find any viruses.

I have disabled windows firewall to check if it works, but no use!

    I live in andhra pradesh.

    Please help me.
I am very very very frustrated.

Please check the details of my modem.
let me know if you would like to know more info.

    Thankyou

    Hello,
    Thank you for your reply.
I have pinged some sites and there is no drop.

Is there anything else going wrong?
    Thank you.

If you have parallel lines with more than one adsl splitter then Disconnection happens. Also this might be a problem with the wires. Make sure that when you connect to internet the SNR does not fall by a large value.

    Unhappy Same problem!!!

    Hi ravikum!!

I have the exact problem. in fact i have the same modem (ITI DNA A211-I), with similar modem statistics. I moved to Ongole, Andra pradesh from chennai last month. I got my net connection jus 3 days before. My plan is 1350 UL (512kbps). At first when i was downloading movies (torrents) i found that the speed graph in utorrent was falling suddenly to 0 and stayed there quite a few mins before resuming. I was using the connection directly through modem. But then, i got suspicious (since i never experienced these probs in chennai), that the problem may be due to some poor lines. So, i changed to Dialer mode and my doubts were confirmed, that, now i get a dialog popping up saying tat "link to dataone failed. reconnection pending".This happens to me like once every hour or two. Then i started googling and found that (in indiabroadband.net) number of others had reported similar prob. i have been patient enuf to read as many posts i can to find the fault. But, i cudn't find any values or parameters with insufficient value. i have phoned the local office and they have said me that the line is faultless, and tomo they will inspect the modem. Hopefully it clears the prob, else am gonna post a new thread seeking new help, coz i cant find any problem in the modem statistics.

Am not pinning much hope on the bsnl guys. Dunno how i am gonna solve this one. Anyway, did u got the problem solved? if yes any suggestions?

This is one of the major trademarks of BSNL which is "Frequent Disconnection"

Now coming to the point, make sure you have checked these, as this problem lies mostly at the hardware parts like wires, DP, splitter etc

    Check these
-- Your line is crystal clear(irks and kirks free)
-- No telephone is connected before the splitter
-- Joints in the telephone line is properly insulated, should free of carbon(if there's a break in the line though)

Also, try changing the wire of your line. it causes problem if there are too many joints and its get old

    @ravikum also @tnsantosh

Your line conditions are fine. SNR is also good.
Attn of line shown 9 db and 1.8 db is extremely good.

Your modem/router is equivalent to G3002-G4

    Wink

To add to suggestion, are you using any other BB other than BSNL in the same machine ?. One other thing, check you local network properties see if it is configured get the ip address dynamically.

    @vikramjb
Good suggestion. Added another link for this.
Anyway the website given by me
shows full settings for modem with screen shots.
( the title is misleading )

    Regarding another BB connection.
Will not make a difference. I have two isp's
    programmed in the same modem.
Change only Rj11 from modem to concerned ISP's phone port.

U r sayin abt the "optain ip address automatically" in LAN TCP/IP properties, right? Yes it is set to that only. Also i am using only dataone!! no other services.

Disconnection is mainly due to line fault or due to splitter fault or sometime it is due to Modem itself faulty and in rare cases ur power adapter can cause this. You already told that u change ur line whether u did other steps or not . I think it may help u

^^ First of all try changing the ADSL Modulation from ADSL2+ to G.DMT. There should be a marginal increase in the downstream SNR.

Those who have SNR problems should check telephone wirings. If possible have the wires from the local telephone box to your house changed. It does'nt cost money. A little buttering should do it ....lol.

This solution is like tera down the complete house and build a new one because an electric point in the kitchen is not working.

What you must do is look at SNR Margin, Attenuation rate, etc. 99% of the time the problem is because of:

    a) Old wires - outside the home and inside
    b) Corroded connections at the telephone junction box
    c) Parallel telephone lines before the splitter

Data is very sensitive to attenuation in line - Voice is not.

^^ Look closely at the various options present in the modem. U should find something termed ADSL Modulation. Or else look into the help manual which came with the modem. Some modems have help integrated into it, u can checkout that too.

just dont go in so much deep only for disconnection

    just follow this steps
    hard reset to ur modem
    then configure it
check ur lan card cable it may be loose
and again told exchange person to check ur line
