That said, EA did not have many popular online games at that time (2003-04-05). The most popular online EA game at that time (if I am not mistaken) was Ultima Online.
Its my urge which is making me reply to this one as there isnt any need actually to correct you as you are right for the most of your part. I say my urge cause i just wanna put it out there that EA was huge in online gaming in year 03 04 and 05
I dont mean to be the Asshole correcting just for the sake of correcting someone but EA is,was, and will be HUGE in online gaming. Command and Conquer Generals and Zero Hour were ruling the charts of online gaming after the launch in year 2003

Infact year 2003 onwards online gaming actually sky rocketed for EA after the advent of Need for Speed Underground and Underground 2 in year 2004.
and then ofc as we all know Need for Speed Most Wanted came in in 2005 and by then online gaming was there never to die again !

But you are very right when you say that most of the Revenues are from Console games. But even in Console gaming they do need internet as 90% of the ppl play console against live multiplayer opponents. Like in XBOX LIVe.
EA and the rest of them are focussing on consoles cause there is less piracy that needs to be fought on consoles than on PCs.

Ultima Online was launched in year 1997 and truly speaking it was never greeted by the community as a good game. Its success was nowhere to be seen.

You are probably right. I stand corrected. I am not a gaming expert.

I believe that piracy[of console games] will increase once majority of the gamers migrate to Consoles ... I also believe that the percentage of pirated games being used/sold is low because the no of console users are way lower when compared to PC .

Most of the console games can be played online... and pirated games can not be played online... thats one of the reasons why therez less piracy in console games... cuz console gamers(I call them serious gamers) are generally inclined to play it online... hence they prefer buying originals...

Most of the console games can be played online
And most of the PC games can also be played online

Still people prefer to play pirated games in PC ?

all serious gamers have a PC too [maybe along with a console]

There is nothing like modding your own gaming PC

Seen gaming PCs with neon lights

Also remember that consoles tend to have upto 4 controllers ... so u can play multiplayer without having to go online

Just because many Indian gamers dont play online games does nt mean Majority of PC gamers dont play online !

Majority of PC gamers are present in countries like US , UK , Singapore , Japan etc

Have you ever logged into EA nations ? WOW servers ? just check the traffic

There are more no of online PC gamers than Console gamers ..... Apart from ones maintained by companies you have many other private servers like Gamespy , steam , Games for Windows Live etc where you can play online

    ShadowCon is spot on

Majority of PC gamers don't play online games...
If you ask me I would say Majority PC gamers play games online than playing Single player missions.

Thats why therez more piracy in PC games... cuz u need originals to play games online!
Thats not the only reason why EA focuses ( i say EA cause few companies "focus" on Consoles like EA does ) on Consoles. Money is a more dictating reason for some companies like EA when they r focussing only on Consoles. The most obvious advantage consoles have over PCs is cost. The majority of consoles sell for well under $500, often with a couple games in the bundle. A PC adequate for running the latest games can easily cost twice that much. The second most obvious advantage is simplicity. Let's face it, PC gaming can be a technical nightmare compared to console gaming. People can actually take a console home and be playing a game within minutes. No operating systems to configure or drivers to update, and better still, no purchasing a game only to find out that it isn't compatible with your PC for some obscure reason.

cuz console gamers(I call them serious gamers) are generally inclined to play it online...
Allow me to take the liberty of contradicting your views.
A serious/hardcore gamer will never abandon his PC rig. He has poured in too much love and cash in it over a period of time and has developed an emotional bonding towards it. When some of the components inside the Consoles become dated there's no way to solve the problem without replacing the entire console.Consoles perform only one task really well, where PCs can be used for an extremely wide range of things. There is a distinct lack of inter-connectivity between the different console brands. Many games are available for one type of console but not others, and when it comes to online play, each is typically restricted to its own network. As well, Microsoft charges a yearly fee for use of the Xbox Live service.

PCs still offer the largest selection of online games, and some of the most popular online games, such as World of Warcraft, are exclusive to the PC. Ideally I suppose we would all have both a console and a PC, but thats not even an option for a gamer.Ego shooter and certain strategy games can never be played on Consoles the way there are being played on PCs. Furthermore, if you like to modify games or edit maps for them, a PC is essential, and you have to take a break from gaming sometime to read gaming sites. Every true gamer would modify edit maps for expertise and fun. PCs are always on the cutting edge of gaming technology and well-equipped PCs continue to offer superior graphics.Computer monitors can be found with considerably higher resolutions than HDTVs.

CONCLUSION : PC Gaming > Console Gaming
INFERENCE : Even if a console offers incredible technology upon its release, there is no way for it to compete with the rapid hardware advancements that have become a way of life in the computer industry.

Ofcourse consoles can never match the performance of high end PCs... I never meant that... And there are more PC games which can be played online, so larger gamer base also... cuz online play in consoles appeared little late... but almost all console gamers like to play online... but thats not true for majority of computer gamers... I mean ratio of online gamers to casual gamers in console is higher than in PC...

Well, the point was that why therez less piracy in console when compared to PC games... And I guess, thats the only reason I could think of...

@ Shadow- Piracy is rampant not only in India but all over the globe thanks to torrent sites...

I will not contest that fact ....
But most Indians dont play online not because they dont have originals but because of Indian ISPs

    1)Low speeds
    2)High pings
    Living Example : Me

I just get very very angry when i get kicked/disconnected ..... so like u i have almost stopped playing online , even though i am a hardcore gamer and have original games ....

Oh and also you dont need a high end PC to beat a PS3 and Xbox360 .... the 8800GT gives better graphics than PS3's gfx solution [Nvidia RSX]...consoles get outdated quickly

Well Xbox 360 Games can be pirated but you loose your Live license and there by ability to play online is also gone. But thats not a problem in India where 2MBps unlimited broadband is unaffordable for most people and thus they cant play online anyway.

If internet is made better and affordable more people will play online as a result. I almost always get too high ping for a stable online gaming with 99% of games.

I think ShAdOwCoN is correct. We dont even get the opportunity to play online.
I frequently end up disconnected or kicked for high ping when playing online.
