i also faced the same problem 2 months back.......but it was resolved at its own.....i also tried the DNS servers which you are now using but it wont helped me......so i guess there is some problem in the BSNL service that they block the traffic from few services.......

I couldn't find MTU settings in my Siemens C2110 but there are VPI, VCI, Peak cell rate, Sustainable cell rate & maximum burst size . And, is NIC the network card in my motherboard? Should I use windows to configure it?

Default google and some other sites not open with bsnl

I have today switched to wifi setup (bsnl moden in pppoe and dlink 524 wifi router).

    I have used dns servers:
    61.1.96.69 and 61.1.96.71

I have observed that most of the time, it could not open google.co.in
It says page not found error.
It was not happenning with wired connection.
All other sites gets opened very fast, but google is always a problem with bsnl.

Any idea??? Should I change DNS servers????

Some of the websites are facing difficulty to open when the connection is configured as pppoe. Just wait for sometime, the problem should fix by itself.

I agree with you. For me this is going on since more than a month. I tried everything including the DNS changing, MTU changing, purchasing a new router (just in case it is something with router), but as of now nothing works.

At the time of writing this reply sites like Hotmail.com is not opening.

If someone can provide a solution to this issue (which I find many now are facing), then it will be a great help to all.

I didn't checked that this time, but earlier in similar situations I tried ping and the result was mixed. That means, at times while I was able to ping (earlier today) the site which was not opening in browser and at times I was unable to ping.

The latest status is I changed MTU to 1454 and now Hotmail is opening.

It looks like, if anyone wants to learn about Networking, this is the right connection .

Default Some issue with my dataone connection

    Hi all,

I found some crazy behavior in my Dataone connection.

I am unable to connect to some websites from my office connection (dataone).
But I can access the same websites from my house & my friend's house too. (we both use Dataone). I am from Bangalore.

Then I connected my Airtel mobile with GPRS enabled to my computer in my office and I can access all the websites without any errors.

I contacted BSNL and found they are not at all competent. This is what happens when Govt. recruits people based on some quota instead of their merit.
They are worst. Their technical knowledge is zero. The call center is hopeless.

I met the AE and discussed the issue upon which he contacted some person and I had to explain everything from beginning and then he asked me to do some tracert, ping, nslookup. and since I was at the telephone exchange, I had to come back to my office and do all the test and after all this failed I went back to the exchange and again the AE connected me to the Maintenance fellows and as usual I had to explain everything from the beginning again.

Till now I have not got any response from them.

I suspect the problem is with the Gateway server. Our office modem connects to 117.x.x.x server, where as my house modem & my friend's modem connects to 59.x.x.x.

Other thing I observed is that the usage checking portal for 59.x.x.x is different than the portal for 117.x.x.x.

Those who are facing similar problem, please post your gateway IP address too so that we can identify the problem more precisely.

To find out the gateway IP - type tracert <some websit> in your command prompt. The IP address next to your modem IP is the Gateway IP address.

Somehow you cannot speak to the right person while dealing with BSNL.

    Bye,
    Prashanth

I came across a "404 Error not found" a while ago. Somehow it didn't want to go away.

And then I checked my host file!
Apparently I had the entry in there and the website changed one or two digits.

So: run down there to c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc and check your hostfile for an entry to your blocked site.

What is MTU and where do I find it?

For last 3 weeks, I am having similar problem. All lights glow, but not able to show any web pages. Some times, in the task bar it shows web site found, keep on trying to display the page but never comes out. Some times, it is peace of cake. Very in consistent.

Following two methods are tried whenever customer support has been called. But it goes back to square one on the second day.

go to modem setup page http//192.168.1.1 and walk through all setups in Advanced / Wan settings and do a soft reboot. It worked once; but no luck later.

In the second advise, it was suggested to give static IP address of 192..168.1.10 and it worked for a while and gone now.

Today I could trace route sites like yahoo.com google.com cnn.com etc. but when you go to IE and type the same URL, it never comes out. I also tried open DNS but still same issue. Not sure where the problem is exactly. :52:

    cheers

    TCP/IP optimizer from speedguide.net.
Download this application and follow advice.

    2
    Mention your modem model/make.
sometimes MTU/MSS values are changed in some modems .
    specially dlink/linksys netgear etc.

3.DRTCP: How do I use it, & what are all these settings?
    Not for VISTA OS.
    4.

    Source :
Broadband FAQ - Should I change the MTU (maximum transmittable unit)?

MTU is the 'maximum transmittable unit' of data
sent across the ADSL broadband network.

Overall download speed is affected by many factors
and changing the MTU can cause other issues -
so if you are getting gooddownload speeds we do not
    recommend you change this.

However, for some users who are getting slower
than expected download performance (due to packet
fragmentation) altering the MTU to 1458 bytes (*1492 usually)
may in some cases result in improved download performance.

I have both 117.xx series and 59.xx series (in two separate home).

The difference I have seen :

117.xx : It fails to connect few of the sites , due to some mismatch/wrong setup(in BSNL side ?) in MTU value. I had to change the MTU value manually to correct the problem. TO check broadband usage u need to login dataone.in site.

59.xx : IT doesn't have the above mentioned problem (is it newer /superior ?) . It allows u to connect the 2 famous sites to check the usage. There are many tools available to pull usage data from those sites to ur machine and show it in desktop without visiting the sites manually.

    For IP 59.xx and 117.xx
1.With FireFox Browser try add on Datafox.
    2. For Ip 117.xx.xx.xx only
    http ://www.data.bsnl.in/wps/PA_SfCareUsageDetails/UsageRecords?accNo=21345678UsgMnth=Aug-2009-Billed&serviceuserid=null

Use your consumer number instead of "21345678"
    for sept 2009 substitute.

Default some websites not opening on BSNL braodband connection

I am getting "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" message while opening couple of website like "Bajajallianz com" or "Online services" links on "www bangaloretlecom.com"/ Though I can open this websies on my laptop using airtel braodband, my office internet and bsnl netone (dial-up) internet, so nothing wrong with my laptop and modem. I complained to bsnl but they are not being able to resolve instead saying something wrong with my laptop.

Please do let me know if you are also facing similar problem and how to resolve the same.

I have bsnl broadband connection in Bangalore, Vimanpura area.

    Thanks,
