    Unhappy desaster speed

    Hello,
I'm Andre being a German and living in Pondicherry. Since last Sat I have the honour to be part of the BSNL community and my live became a desaster.
First here is my test from today morning (which was quite good actually)

    « SpeedGuide.net Speed Test Results »
    304 kbps down (~0.3 Mbps, 37 KB/s)↓
    179 kbps up (~0.18 Mbps, 22 KB/s)↑
1024 KB downloaded in 27.578 seconds
100 KB uploaded in 4.578 seconds
    Tested on: 2008.12.24 21:40 EST
    Tested from: layeredtech.com
Test Link: .speedguide.net/speedtest/results.php?test=2176508]SG Speed Test Results[/url]
    Latency: 332ms

But it comes even worser, right now I'm downloading Opera browser (one of my last hopes) with a transfer rate of 9.7 kbs and again that's not bad compared to the days before there it was between 3-6 kbs.
I'm having a homeplan from 256 to 2Mps unlimited (forgot the details) and ITI DNA - A 211-1 Modem.
Lineman has cleared my line and BSNL people telling me without a proper downloader it will be like that. I admit I do not know much about this techi stuff, so pls write your comments is a simple manner.
    Thanks for the support
    Andre

try DAP - download accelerator plus or you can try flashget to make the most of whatever bandwidth you are getting

you might not get very good speeds for the next few days due to some under sea cable problem in the mediterranean sea

that's what. My guess is modem, but I'm not fit enough to do adjustments without guidance. Anybody can help, how and what has to be checked?

So Mr.Andre if you see the other threads then you will be understand that show many user are facing this problem recently and most of them due to the cable fault even my download speed at speedtest.net 1970 kbps(Mumbai server) yesterday but for some website i hardly get 8-10 KBps download speed.I think your problem is due to the same reason(cable problem) so we all have to show some patience in this time.
just to try download from microsoft dwonload site tell us what d/l speed you are getting

    it's about 7.5 kbs.
I understand that there is a calbe cut. My BSNL guys saying cable is n o t the problem and I got the connection on last Sat, so there the cable was cut and I do not know now, if instaliotion/modem/cable cut or god knows what is screwed up. Before I used Sify this is total gone for six (because of cable problem).

1.Any firewall in your pc ? then disable it.
2.Now describe in detail about your modem
try to check modem line attentuation after typing 192.168.1.1 user name-admin pass-admin
for detail check New Page 1
easiest way tell the BSNL employ to check your line

this is a different modem, no problems?
I have to start delete protocols as per instruction! Shall I?
I have no probs, provided you are another 15 min online!
The BSNL guy has checked my line in front of my eyes and everything is ok from his end.

I have followed the instructions, but still no change in the result, its still by around 10kbs in download. Any more suggestions?

    Hi,
    somebody can believe this:

    Mirror from US

    « SpeedGuide.net Speed Test Results »
    40 kbps down (~0.04 Mbps, 5 KB/s)↓
    108 kbps up (~0.11 Mbps, 13 KB/s)↑
100 KB downloaded in 20.344 seconds
100 KB uploaded in 7.594 seconds
    Tested on: 2008.12.25 03:58 EST
    Tested from: layeredtech.com
    Test Link: speedguide.net/speedtest/results.php?test=2176762
    Latency: 330ms

    Mirror from Jarkata
    « SpeedGuide.net Speed Test Results »
    605 kbps down (~0.61 Mbps, 74 KB/s)↓
    359 kbps up (~0.36 Mbps, 44 KB/s)↑
1024 KB downloaded in 13.859 seconds
250 KB uploaded in 5.703 seconds
    Tested on: 2008.12.25 04:01 EST
    Tested from: biznetnetworks.com
    Test Link: speedguide.net/speedtest/results.php?test=2176764
    Latency: 329ms

I believe with this is proved, that my problems are related to cable cut or not?

Default Try to change default DNS

    type your DNS
Try to change the option of open dns and use this
    preferred DNS 208.67.222.222
    alternative DNS 208.67.220.220
    to check DNS
    start-->Run type cmd -->ok type ipconfig/all

Set preferred to be : 208.67.222.222
And, 208.67.220.220 to be the alternative.

I have 2 network connections: BSNL & LAN (as given below)

LAN (TCP/IP) settings are as below:

& BSNL (TCP/IP) settings are as below:

With the above settings,I get the normal expected speed (750 UL plan).

Should I have the same settings in BSNL (TCP/IP) as in LAN (TCP/IP)

If you are getting the expected speed, then there is no need to do any additional tweakings (Or this is what I think).

Please check your speed here : Tata Indicom Broadband - Bandwidth Meter
And post your results. This speed test is performed on an indian server at Mumbai and will help in getting to the root cause.

And make sure you close all other applications which use the net before running the test to get accurate results.

Check your trace route to : vsnl.com
You are probbably using an isp other then bsnl, tata, mtnl and vsnl as if you were using any of these then this speed test server should be giving you a ping less then 50 and on good days might come down to 15-20ms

It may not be your connections problem.
It might be the host server's problem.

If you want to really test that, download something from a fast server like Microsoft's.

I get about 250-265 kbps speed from such servers.

The site indicated that I could download at 303 kbps.

Is this one just our dataone's same thing.

Didn't the download speed come down just when the download was about to finish?

If that's so, no need to worry dude.
    That happens.
