ok .. so the ppoe mode part is correct.. now login to your modem's settings (http://192.168.1.1) .. there look for a DHCP option. and tell whether DHCP is switched ON in the modem or not.. if your not sure.. post a screenshot of that page

Question Data usage montoring

Hi,
Me and some friends are going to share an ADSL connection. I will use a modem and Netgear router WPN824. All users will be connected to this wireless router. How can I made a setup to monitor or limit internet data usage at router side, not on users pc? Is this possible?

You can limit bandwidth for users conected to the router..... refer to ur admin area of the router...

Exclamation

Hi,
I don't have the router as of now. In the router manual, there is no option specified to limit the bandwidth. What are the other workarounds???
I will purchase the router if everything goes fine.

you can restrict certain users to selected ports only like 80 for web traffic to stop torrents.also you can stop users from connecting to net altogether only allowing the wifi network.you can also set your router to disconnect & then reconnect at fixed intervals of say 3 min.so that they won't be able to download from sites like rapidshare.you can also block sites like rapidshare in the router's firewall.

Yes, that I know, but we all have laptops. We don't have a dedicated pc. It will be sufficient, if I am only able to monitor the data transfer by each wireless user. I don't have any need to block access to any perticular site/software.

Thanks, this tool is great. But I have a doubt. I have a laptop, I am not always connected to the same network which I want to monitor. Everybody has different timings for connecting to the network. How can this tool help me out?
As I want to monitor data transfer of all users, whether I am connected or not. Can I do something at router level?
