You dont need any of these settings on your laptop. Your wireless lan card should automatically detect the network. All you need is a wireless router to connect to the laptop wirelessly.

@ Rajat , if the modem make & number are given then
you can provide the exact steps if required . As the
configuring network in a system is different [ depending
on OS ] , the configuring of a modem is also different .

for e.g. configuring D-Link GLB502T is quite different from
configuring D-Link DSL502T !!! A netgear modem can be
automatically configured itself . But a Linksys modem cant
be configured easily . A Huawei router can be easily used
with wireless security but configuring Quadway router is
very difficult (yes , it is difficult to get wireless security) .

Default Problem encountered while using the 2am-8am unlimited usage facility.

Hi,

I've been using BSNL Dataone Home-500 plan (256kbps) for almost an year now. I have win2k OS, Huawei WA1003A modem. Till a couple of months back, I had not utilized the 2am-8am unlimited usage facility. Now I have configured my BIOS to startup at 2am & then many applications (torrents, etc.) starts up automatically after that. I've been noticing that the internet stops working at 3.30am. I'm able to ascertain this time by using a simple bash shell script which pings google every minute & records the log in a file. I've monitored this way for 3 times & found that the time is exactly 3.30am. Once or twice I was awake till 3.30am & found the same problem reoccurring. After I switch off & switch on the modem, the internet connection starts working & again stops around 5.30am. I thought there might be some problem with the Wi-Fi & switched to the Ethernet connection but with no result. The same problem occurs every day & I end up downloading only about 100-150MB instead of nearly 600MB (6hr @256kbps).

If anybody can shed some light on what the problem might be, it will be very useful to me.

Thanks in advance.

Default Wireless - DHCP

Hi,

I've followed these instructions to set up wireless, there is one additional thing that you'll need to keep in mind:

- Both the wireless router *and* the modem are capable of running the DHCP service, but you'll have to ensure that the modem's DHCP service is enabled, while the wireless router's DHCP service is disabled. (The router has DHCP enabled by default)

Cheers!

Default Setting up HUAWEI Quidway WA1003A wireless connection

Hi All,

I have successfully setup Wifi for two laptops using calcuttatelephones.com/dataoneinstall/mu04.html instructions.

However, I am noticing a strange problem. I can open all the websites except dataone.in and sancharnet.in. I have tried turning my firewall off, but it does not help.

Does anyone else have noticed similar problem???

This is not working for me. I have a SmartAX MT882 HUAWEI modem and a NetGear WGR614 v5 wireless router.

When I follow the steps mentioned above, I get a "device is taking too long to respond error" which I click apply after the following (Last) step:
================================================== ====
Does your Internet connection require a login? – No
Account Name – blank
Domain Name – blank
Internet IP Address
Use Static IP Address
IP Address – 192.168.1.91
IP Subnet Mask – 255.255.255.0
Gateway IP Address – 192.168.1.90
Domain Name Server (DNS) Address
Use These DNS Servers
Primary DNS – 61.1.96.69
Secondary DNS – 61.1.96.71
Router MAC Address
Use Default Address
·Click on Apply and wait till the router restarts
================================================== ====

After this when I try to detect the Wireless Network from my laptop, I am able to see the network and connect to it, but I am unable to browse.

I noticed that the default gate way in the laptop is 192.168.1.1, even though the IP Address of the Wireless router is 192.168.1.91. I even checked accessing the wireless router from my desktop with the follow URL's after the error:

http://192.168.1.1/basicsetting.htm
http://192.168.1.91/basicsetting.htm

Both of these give me a page cannot be displayed error.

Also, I am also unable to connect from my desktop machine once I have made these changes. What am I missing here?

Exclamation

Hi Admin,

I saw your step by step guide to the HUAWAI modem and a wireless router. It was great. I tried configuring my UT300R2U modem and the linksys WRT54G wireless router on those lines and failed. Over the past week I have tried all the tricks up my sleeve and used a fair part of my logical thinking (I'm not a sys admin).

Both these units have DHCP, Firewall, and a whole lot of other options that I can't figure out what to disable/enable in which unit.

Kindly help.

Thanks,

jifi

if ur using a second router for wlan then no need for reconfiguring any settings in the bsnl router...
1.connect the bsnl router to a computer, open 192.168.1.1 and in lan settings turn off dhcp server
2.disconnect the computer from the bsnl router and connect the bsnl router to the second router's wan port
3.connect all computers to the second router
4.go to the second router's config page and in wan settings set the connection type as PPPOE and enter user name and password
5. ur connected
u dont hav to dial the connection everytime as the second router dials the connection at boot up

Default this did not work..MT882 with AWG614v7

i have gone exactly as per the instructions laid out by Admin..
and it just doesn't work

after completing the connections, i tried pinging the DNS server and there was a timeout - any clue here that can help me?

BTW, what should be the DNS entries that i need to use while configuring the Router? I picked those numbers from the Modem configuration (\Home\DNS).
Is this the right one?

Help !! i am indeed frustrated..

PS - the Router is NETGEAR WGR614v7 !!
