^ @ Nair , if you can use the bridge mode (that is leave the
modem in default factory settings or set it to bridge mode and
use a dialer to connect to the internet) then there will be no
need for portforwarding . all ports are forwarded in this stage .

Question Modem port

Thank you for your suggestion. My doubt is that will I have to reconfigure the modem once it is reset or will it automatically get set to factory setting? All I wanted to do is to reset the username/password of BSNLBB. How do I do it?

if you know your Broadband user ID and password then
I suggest to use hard reset and make a dialer . if you
insist on reaching modem console and want to change
modem settings then type http://192.168.1.1/ and use
admin/admin or root/root to get into modem console .

if you get into modem console then change the setting
from pppoe to bridge , save the settings and use manual
dialer (Network setup wizard) to connect to the internet .

if you get any error messages then post here .

Smile BSNL BB p/wd reset

Thank you for the information that you have posted.

I know the user name, the password was noted by the official of BNSL because I was away at the time of installation. The dialer does not show the password. When I try to log in to http://192.168.1.1/ or Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. to check usage, the password is not accepted. In this case how do I change the password?

I am not very good in this stuff, so I could not follow what you mentioned regarding modem "pppoe to bridge." I just want to change my password so that I can check usage and/or check mail. If you could please guide me in this regard.

With warm regards,

Arrow rta100+

I have a similar problem but with a askey Dynalink RTA100+ ADSL Router/Modem and am connected to punjab bsnl dataone brodband. I also recently purchased NETGEAR WGR614v6 / 54mbps wireless router. I too have followed the instructions in the setup wizard but i cannot connect to the Internet even via the lan or usb ports. I tried to bridge the RTA100+ ADSL modem, which i did following Dynalink's instructions but im not sure if it is fully bridged. When I did bridge my Dynalink modem, and connected my netgear router, I could not gain access to the IP config page even for the router (which is the same as the dynalink modem 192.168.1.1). I was wondering how I fully bridge my dynalink RTA100+ modem and how I connect to the internet from my dynalink modem through my netgear router and then to my pc via LAN or usb (and then hopefully wireless). Please help me because the guys at netgear could not work it out and said the router was faulty?i purchased from australia. plz help me.(HOW TO CONFIGER) thanx

Default regarding the change of user name and password

Hi ,

There are fwe things i need to clarify
stay at Hderabad

Previously in order to check the account usage , you could have logged into dataone.in and check the account usage but that will not work now.

BSNL customer requires three things
1. username
2. password
3. portalId : this is the id through which a customer can enter the bsnl website BSNL NIB-II PORTAL to check the account usage and also change the password.

Try this,

It seems that the problem is that you have given access to your modem (192.168.1.1) through BOTH Lan and wireless .
Change the access management to LAN instead of BOTH and this will solve the problem.

With warm regards,

Hi narrib ,

Changing the username and password for the BSNL BB :

first you can not change the username of your BB for that you have to give written pplication to the BSNL / NIB
you can change your password by loggin into data.bsnl.in or dataone.in and in the account usage page / manage your account you can definitely change it .
the problem that i usually face it that even after changing the password in he website the new passord sometimes dosnot get updated t the Banglore server which handles all the user accounts .

once you have successfully changed the password you can connect using the new password (bridge mode) or permenantly store it in the modem memry (PPoE)

So, Here is my Step-By-Step guide to configuring a Wi-Fi network with BSNL DataOne. Though many wireless routers claim that it is a no-brainer setup to configure the wireless network, I found it to be not as easy as it looks to be. For example, NetGear comes with a wizard that never works with BSNL broadband connected via HUAWEI SmartAX 880. For those of you desperate to take your BSNL DataOne broadband wireless, follow these steps. It took me more than 2 days to figure and come out with these configuration details.

Before I start, let me share what I have with this bsnl broadband connection:

1)BSNL DataOne 256Kbps connection.
2)HUAWEI SmartAX MT880 (The modem supplied by BSNL).
3) (configuring netgear dg632 for BSNL)NetGear WGR614v5

There are 2 steps to configuring your wireless network. First, you have to change the default settings of the SmartAX MT880 modem and configure it to enable PPPoE (PPP over Ethernet). Second, you have to configure the NetGear Router to talk to the modem.

Keep your modem, wireless router and your username and password from BSNL handy before you proceed to the next step.

If you want to change your existing configuration, take a backup of your configuration. This guide is to build your network from the ground-up.

1)Configuring and testing your Broadband connection
·Setup the modem as per the instructions mentioned in the manual. Ensure that the RJ11 (thin) cable from the splitter is connected to the ADSL port and the RJ45 cable connects your machine to the Ethernet port of the modem.

·Change the IP properties of your Ethernet card to the following:
192.168.1.2
255.255.255.0
192.168.1.1

·Open the browser and type http://192.168.1.1 to go to the HUAWEI configuration tool.

·Enter ‘admin’ as username and ‘admin’ as password

·Expand the Home node and select the WAN Setting

·Under this web page, configure the following:
PVC Number – PVC 0
Wan Type – PPP
Connection Type – PPPoE
VPI/VCI – 0 / 35
Default Route - Enabled
User Name – <Your ISP UserName>
Password – <Your ISP Password>
Use DNS – Enabled
Max Idle Time – Always On

·Click on Apply and allow the modem to restart.

·Close the browser window

·Open the browser and type http://192.168.1.1

·Enter ‘admin’ as username and ‘admin’ as password

·You should see the Summary page. The Status is normally Red indicating that the connection is not ON.

·Click on the Plug icon in the Note column to connect.

·After the Connecting message, you should see the summary page again with the Status turning Green. Notice the IP Address and the Gateway Address.

·Expand Tools node and click on Misc.

·Type www.msn.com and click on Ping

·You should see Ping Result: Successful

·Click on the Lan Settings link under the Advanced node.

·Configure the following:
IP Address – 192.168.1.90
Subnet Mask – 255.255.255.0(/24)
Local Domain Name – Blank

·Click on Apply and allow the modem to restart

·Open the Network properties of your Ethernet card and change the IP properties to the following

IP Address – 192.168.1.2
Subnet Mask – 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway – 192.168.1.90
Preferred DNS server – 61.1.96.69 (BSNL DNS Server IP)
Alternate DNS server – 61.1.96.71 (BSNL DNS Server IP)

·Open your browser and type your favorite URL. You should be online by this time!

2)Configuring the Wireless Router and enabling the WPA security
·Connect the network cable from the NetGear wireless router to the machine.

·Open the IP Properties of your Network card and Enable DHCP. Select the following on the IP properites dialog.
Obtain IP Address Automatically
Obtain DNS Server Address Automatically

·Open the browser and type http://192.168.1.1/basicsetting.htm

·Enter ‘admin’ as username and ‘password’ as the password

·Click on Wireless Settings link on the navigation pane and configure with the following values

Wireless Network
Name (SSID) - <YourSSID>
Region – Asia
Channel – 11
Mode – g and b
Security Options
WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy)
Security Encryption (WEP)
Authentication Type – Automatic
Encryption Strength – 64bit
Security Encryption (WEP) Key
Passphrase - <YourPassphrase>
·Click on Generate

·Record the value of Key1 – This is required when you log on to your Wi-Fi network the first time.

·Click on Apply and wait till the router reboots
(Wireless will not be enabled till you complete the next step)

·Click on the Basic Settings link on the left side navigation pane and configure the following

Does your Internet connection require a login? – No
Account Name – blank
Domain Name – blank
Internet IP Address
Use Static IP Address
IP Address – 192.168.1.91
IP Subnet Mask – 255.255.255.0
Gateway IP Address – 192.168.1.90
Domain Name Server (DNS) Address
Use These DNS Servers
Primary DNS – 61.1.96.69
Secondary DNS – 61.1.96.71
Router MAC Address
Use Default Address
·Click on Apply and wait till the router restarts

·Connect the Network Cable coming from the ADSL Modem to the Wireless Router

Few things to remember –
·Don’t connect the ADSL Lan Cable to the Internet Uplink port of the Wireless Router. It never worked for me. Always connect it to one of the 4 ports excluding the designated Internet port.

·IP Addresses can be anything of your choice. But it is a good idea to follow the 192.168.x.x convention

·If you get lost any time, feel free to reset the configuration by poking a pin into the reset slot on the modem and the router.

·Don’t compromise on the security. Always enable WPA and save your key. Don’t let your friendly neighbors ride on your network!

Have a happy Wi-Fi surfing and drop a comment in case you want more inputs.

Dear admin...

BSNL`s Huawei MT880 works perfectly with Netgear WGR614. Plz go thru the following procedures.

1) Assuming u have not oppened ur netgear wifi router and ur net connection was working perfectly, proceed to the admin area of bsnl`s modem ( Huawei MT880 ).

2) Click on : Home--->DHCP--->Enabled ( Just change the starting IP address to something like 192.168.1.10 )

3) Press apply and restart ur modem!

4) Go to internet connections select ur LAN connection and go for properties.

Select Internet Protocol(TCP/IP)--->properties--->make sure u turn everything to automatic.. don`t bother going to advanced menu.

U may ahve to restart ur pc .. but it still got to work.. ur LAN will now try to get the IP address required to properly communicate with modem automatically... ur internet won`t work rite now cause u have not properly defined DNS address in the modem.. plz follow the following procedures.

5) Come back again to the admin area of the modem.

3) Click on : Home--->WAN Setting--->Connection Type--->PPPoE Enabled (don`t change the rest of the configuration)

4) Click on : Home--->DNS--->DNS Status--->Enabled

Enter the following DNS address:

Primary DNS Address 208.67.222.222
Secondary DNS Address 208.67.220.220

The above DNS addresses have nothing to do with ur connection settings.. just makes browsing a lot faster.

Thats it with ur Modem settings ...

Please check you can browse the net.. before configuring ur Netgear router.

Please connect the ADSL LAN cable ( that comes from modem ) to the Internet Port only

Switch off everything... except ur pc turn on the modem first and wait until the ADSL link is up.. then switch on the router. Wait for a min.. ur wifi card shd detect a hotspot just connect it... once ur connected u can login to the routers admin area... I recommend u don`t use LAN cable at all to connect ur wifi laptop/pc to the router.

Netgear Router settings...

1) Login to routers admin area. There will be a wizard procedure. please do everything manually. Don`t go with the wizard option....

2) go to Basic settings--->Select NO for login question.

Basic settings--->Internet IP Address---> Get Dynamically From ISP

Basic settings--->Domain Name Server (DNS) Address--->Use These DNS Servers

Enter the following DNS address:

Primary DNS Address 208.67.222.222
Secondary DNS Address 208.67.220.220

Basic settings--->Router MAC Address---> Use Default Address

Thtz it for the basic settings ... check if you can browse the net... and go back to the admin area of the router and properly configure security settings... Plz make sure u select "G mode only" for best trasmission rates and gr88 coverage....

I had lot of problems initially... i used dlink`s wifi router with my bsnl modem and it worked gr88 without much configuration...

But with netgear the problem is with the default IP address it comez with... itz the same as the modem IP address.. instead of just changing bsnl or netgear IP`s we can get better result if we could turn on DHCP... cause itz DHCP`s work to properly configure LAN !

And last.... This perhaps is the best way to wirelessly access the internet with BSNL`s ADSL lines. And Netgear is the best recommended wifi router as for as price to performance ration is concerned... well it beatz every router in itz class..

ur pc and laptop must have been connected thru ur router... make sure u turn the DHCP server ON on all the devices... which includes ur router as well. make sure u can simultaneously browse the net on ur machinez...then run thru the file and printer sharing wizard on ur machines... I feel the problem is based on connectivity issues....IP address assignment and that kind of stuff... all the best !
