Funny, now I cant even access the 192.168.1.1 page. I am online however. Any idea? Both IE and Mozilla results in the same "page cannot be displayed error. Pinging that same address times out.
It might help. I just did a tracert and I can trace only upto my vpn cluster (I need to be online on my vpn right now) and it does not go anywhere beyond my vpn server location.

PS: how does one attach screen shots to this forum?

enter static ip address manually for your pc under network connections->local area connection.. enter ip as 192.168.1.10 and gateway as 192.168.1.1 .. you can attach pics by uploading to tinypic and pasting the link here.. now try accessing 192.168.1.1

yes.. because your gateway ip is blank .. set it to 192.168.1.1.. you may want to edit that output.. cause the 10.x.x.x ip may be your workplace's server ip.. not good to place on public forums..

    Thumbs down

No go mate. I cant even get the "acquiring IP address" state on the adapter. I tried looking for the wireless signal on my phone (HTC3300) but it does not find any wireless signal either. Wireless Media state is still disconnected.
I have 1) entered manual IPs in the modem interface
    2) removed manual IP in the modem and assigned static ips 192.168.1.xx in the wireless adapter too
    3) assigned same ip address scheme in BOTH adapter and modem
    4) tried enabling dhcp. But I dont think BSNL gives me that option.
    5) my wireless radio works. I know this because I connect to the office wireless seamlessly when I am in office.
    6) I have two Laptops. I cant get a signal from both the laptops. (Lenovo T61 and Lenovo T60) - I can connect to office wireless from both laptops.
    7) the Wireless LED is constant on the ADSL modem.
    8) reset has been done on the modem some days ago (about a week)
    9) Disabling and shutting down firewall/AV makes no difference.
    10) Calling BSNL is not an option, I am sure we know about that very well

    Default BSNL modem

Well, firstly thanx for all the guidance. Now i have another question:

I managed to got http : // 192 . 168 . 1 . 1 and setup the wan settings for wi-fi login; Although not all the fields matched. Also changed the SSID and set a security pswd for that too. however now when i try to go back to my PC the modem does not respond. tried switching to VCP1 instead of VCp0, but the same result ( the laptop works but the PC does not). Any suggestions?

If wrt54g is only a wif router
mention the bsnl modem make you have.
    With full setup
Start RUN type cmd type ipconfig/all
    Give data here.

How many wireless Network connections appear in your Network ?

Para two : To secure see "How to" threads here or

Default rates and speeds- bsnl broadband

    hi guys,
seems to me i am the least broadband-savvy person in here! still i am game to learn...and once i get my bsnl connection i'll try and follow the advice u ppl have dispensed. till then i need some duller info- what kind of home plan can i get for my laptop at home? i can't afford to spend much but i do a lot of online reading and sometimes youtube-movies. i am telling you what i use my net for so you could suggest speeds for me. only thing i download regularly is songs. so what should i get- the required speed and modem type?
    reva.

I advice you to start with UL750+ in the beginning. This will help you in not exceeding your usage limit. Yes, the speed is slow @ 256 kbps or 32 kB/s but you could analyize your requirements and your usage pattern and then shift to high speed/limited usage plan like Home 500 C+.

Default Specific question on settings for wireless network using Linksys routers

    Hello,

Very useful thread with great instructions for setting up a wireless network. Have a couple of questions though. I have a Huawei DSL modem (MT 880) which I've been using with my desktop for the last year or so. Decided to go wireless now that I have a laptop and so I got a Linksys WRT54G2 wireless router.

I went into the Linksys console and changed the IP to 192.168.10.1 so it doesn't conflict with the DSL modem (192.168.1.1). The part I'm not sure about is what do I choose as the Internet connection type in the Linksys router configuration? The choices are Automatic Configuration-DHCP, Static IP, PPoE and a couple of others which I don't think are relevant.

If I choose Automatic Configuration, it only prompts me for the router IP information which I entered as above (192.168.10.1/255.255.255.0). I figure that in order for the router to talk to the modem, I need to specify the modem's IP address (192.168.1.1) as the gateway address but there doesn't seem to be any place to enter this information.

If I choose Static IP, it seems to expect an external IP address and gateway and rejects the internal (192.x) address that I specify.

PPoE expects a user name and password and given that the DSL modem already has that information, I'm not sure if this is the right option either.

Could someone shed some light on what the correct configuration should be?

One last question. There seems to be varying opinions on whether the connection from the modem to the router should be via the Internet port on the router or if it should just use one of the Ethernet ports and if the connection should be via a straight through or cross over cable.

    Thanks in advance!

    @admin,

Thanks for the guide. I am thinking of getting BSNL UL 1350 connection. Right now i dont have bsnl phone as well. I will get both phone and internet.

I am thinking of purchasing linksys wireless router myself.

I heard that BSNL doesn't come if the customer purchases the router. They just call and let us know over the phone that the internet is ready.

Is there any body who can suggest the which Linksys Wireless Router (model name and no.) i should go for?

and also will this same guideline can be followed for configuring it?
