Default Switched on mode in modem

Hi

What would be the usage charges, if I keep my Modem in 'always on' mode throughout the day. I connect my laptop thru. wireless connection. Occasionally I chat for a few minutes and then I lock the computer after closing YM application.

Thanks in adv.

If you are on Unlimited tariff plan no problem.
If your wireless network is not secured,
others can use your unsecured
wireless network connection.

If modem /router is WAG3002-g4

Whether you are using wired or wireless modem (and wireless security is enabled), and your modem is configured in 'always on (PPPoE)' mode, there is a constant packet exchange that is happening to keep the connection alive.

This exchange happens in idle mode also. So there is some usage even when you are not actively surfing. Hence advise the following:

a) Switch off the modem when not in use
b) In PPPoE mode, there is an option to close connection during idle time. Turn this on.
c) Switch to bridge mode.

I understand the possibility of hacking a wireless network. However, the connection is in a remote location and there is no computer in nearly 2-3 km radius. So, I do not think someone may peek into my wireless network.

If you pay for data transfer charges & ur modem is in pppoe mode, then u r charged for sure even if the modem is switched on but not used.
For wireless security always use WPA or WPA2 (Never Use WEP ,it can be hacked easily within no time)
