From last 4-5 days only the speed at all times is very slow.
But on 31st and 1st Jan. I got great speeds of about 200KBps, but from today morning the speeds are again back being slow again.

    @niravm09
1.Test speed at speedtest.net server say Brisbane
day time and NU time. compare.

D/L at torrent sites/ with D/L managers / Free RS
need not be always at top speed .

    2. Does your DynamicIP change for NU ?

    clear ur dns cache

go to run and type cmd and press enter

and type ipconfig/flushdns and press enter

also clear your internet history cookies cache file of your browser

make sure ur system is clean, run antispyware scan or anti virus scan

the problem your facing is common these days as bsnl international gateways r choked due to high usage during happy hours

    Default Reduced Download Speed 500C+

    Hi all,
I am new to this forum, Hope to get advice from you veterans.
I have 500C+ plan, since the mid of Dec I m unable to download with speeds greater than 50KB, which happens to be fixed somehow, I wonder.

Our home shifted recently to a nearby place, and yet the situation persists though nothing has been altered except for the location..

Pls help me resolve this problem....

    Thanks in advance...

The earlier slowdown was due to some undersea cables that had been cut.
They have been restored and everything is fine now. But, I have heard some complain that they still are not getting good speeds.

It maybe also due to faulty connection. If your connection line is disturbed, you may find some difficulties with your connection.

Actually, you are still having slowdown???
    Please be sure.

In this days this is very common problem most of the BSNL user facing same problem(specially in night unlimited) download speed 50KBps mean 400kbps now you can't blame on BSNL because they never gives guarantee for 2mbps speed.

Thank you very much for the reply

@dhaneshv : I still experience speeds that are even less, today its only 20KBytes per sec. Earlier when I used IDM, it used to go to 250 KBytes per sec, and of course while using rapidshare, it used to be very appreciable atleast 100KBytes/s was very easy to reach, but now its in the range of few KB/s often a single digit....

rupu1983 Pls read the above said mentioned and added to that I came to know about the plausible causes like

-- Quality of the wire and their interconnections ( Regarding this I rechecked and everything was ensured to be well connected i.e. contact is properly established )

I wonder if this is possible.....

    • What do you say about the length of the wire used ?? i.e. the total length of the wire from the main connection into the home, is it likely to occur that very long wires can be a cause, as I live in a medium sized apartment

    • Does BSNL bother about the speed their customers get!!, is there any remedy to this ?? I have rarely seen anything about this, morover the problem was checked if there is any frequent disconnection, but never about speed

    • I am from VIZAG, if there is any person living in high rise buildings where their connections are at the ground floor, experienced such low speeds, pls post, it might be of helpful to all

    • Does OS be a cause of this problem or with antivirus, I checked the ports and when using UTORRENT, I get everything verified and all ports are forwarded properly and speeds only 50KBytes/s

And what can be the likely remedy for this solution

Nope man, that is not a problem, i have frens living in apartments and they don't have any such problems.

But what matters is the distance from the first juction box in your home to ur modem, smaller the better.

Thank you very much newprouser for your reply. So now I guess the problem is with the connection at somewhere else... I'll check out and post the progress..

One more question.... Does old Modem be a likely cause ??, its in use since 3 yrs now
Thank you guys for your diagnosis

I don't think modem is an issue. I myself am using the same modem from 2005.

Well then u can try this as well , temporarily disconnect all the phones and see if it helps.

Yes. You might like to try disconnecting other telephone lines and try.
Telephone extensions may also cause a problem.

    Hello Guys,
Yesterday I checked the speed with my friends modem, mine is Smart MT 882, My modem is not giving me a better speed.
I wondered when under any circumstances my friends modem outperformed always, the min speed was 170KBytes/s and sustains the speed even at 250KBytes/s, while mine remained only at 70KBytes per sec, same line, same wires, no change, rarely it crossed 100KBytes/s, never sustains it, it somehow confines itself to 60-70s.
So, what I believe finally is the modem is the culprit, I checked several times, but the performance remains the same. I complained this to the authorities, waiting for their response.
If people have experienced Modem problems, cause being speed reduction, pls post, it might be very helpful for many people.

can you please let me know what are the settings that needs to be modified for performance improvement??

I am not aware of anything except the reset button, rarely have I installed the modem software, its current utility status is only that of an external hardware connecting the computer through ethernet and phone line.

    hi superprash2003,
No, I dont face any disconnections, at any time the connection is stable, the trouble persists with only speed and nothing else, my modem takes a bit more time to dial, while my friends modem is performing better, I guess it should be an improved version.
The link LED doesnt glow if I directly connect to the wire without the splitter, whereas my friends glows whether or not splitter is present.

You can check other thread also lots of user are facing this problem in this days specially in night unlimited at first check speed in Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test (day and night Brisbane & Mumbai server) for low speed also you can register a general complaint also to CC but one think remember BSNL never promise to 2 mbps speed (its upto) now you are getting 40KBps(i think you try to mention byte not bit) that mean your speed 40*8=320kbps(above 256kbps) so if they not accept your problem you can't do anything.

    @ Rupu,
I agree to what you've said, I have checked about the 2mbps during the days when it was announced for the first time. Indeed its a business strategy, where the customers are lured by stating things explicitly which have several implicit details in it, like they say its ( upto 2mbps ), I was excited initially though, but the speeds were consistently good till the end of 2008, I have never seen any performance degradation when it comes to speed, most of the time, its the external connections due to which links fail frequently, otherwise everything was fine.

I am only troubled with the modem slowing down the speed rather than anything else, I checked in many places, my modem simply reduces the speed, while connecting my friend's gives my goodness full speed, without any change in settings. I believe its a hardware problem only, in my case.

Now the speeds are even worse, I dont even get 256KBps which is must to be called as a broadband speed, though 2mbps is far from reality, now I rarely reach 30 and anything below 20KBps is what I get now, torrents, ftp, any connection, same situation. Because my modem was purchased, there is no option left, except to purchase another one.

Guys some body please suggest me which modems are good, and pls do mention their model numbers, their cost etc. Thank you.
