    Default ip address

once we switch on the modem does the ip address remain same through the session?
i was downloading 3 to 4 movies and all of them stopped at same time,i checked the ip address and it was diferrent from what it was when i switched the modem... what could be the problem , how can it be solved?

    it has happened many times...

i use home500 plan from bsnl with ut300r2u modem...

once modem is switched on, is there a possibility of change in ip address due to problem in computer i am using...

IP address won't change like that. Your connection must have disconnected in the middle of download. Did this happened many times ?

Hmmm I thought the IP address changes ATleast once evry hr. My modem's info pages show "lease time" which is set to 1 hr every time I make a connection.

When you get a IP address it will not change till you restart the connection even if it says 1 or 24 hours. System will renew lease before reaching the time limit. If IP address does changes every 1 hours the connection to the server will fail/disconnect and you wont be able to get big files that takes more than one hour download.

@ viru_1, did you tried virus scanning.

IP address does not change during a session.

But what is a session exactly? We think that a session is the time when we switched on the modem and connected to internet till the time we disconnect and switch off the modem.

But the line itself may not be stable. There could be a blip during which connection goes down and the router auto-dials to re-establish the connection. In such a case the previous session is broken and new one starts. BSNL (and most ISPs) provide dynamic IPs for most plans. In case of dynamic IPs, the IP address will change.

This is not a problem - just the way things are. If there are too many disconnects then it is a problem and must be reported.

Unless you are downloading from rapid share that should not be a problem.

If you are using torrents they will automatically restart when the connection is re established.

if u were using torrents, did u look at the modem's link led. it probably stopped glowing or was blinking, this happens a lot, ur connection got temporarily disconnected. the ip may have been changed by ur isp-server in the same time.
ip doesnt change while u are connected to net.
with the problem u have reported, there is nothing to solve.

Your i.p.address wont change until your modem gets disconnected from your ISP.
If you download files using torrents or from resumable download servers (not applicable for internet explorer) your downloads should continue.
