you havent confirmed if all your telephones are connected after splitter..disconnect all telephones temporarily and then try.. its usually because of splitter or wrong telephone connections.. go to http://192.168.1.1 and under STATUS post your SNR INfo

    its Signal to Noise Ratio.
ratio of a signal power to the noise power corrupting the signal.

The higher the ratio, the less obtrusive the background noise is.

In order for us to help you , you must first mention the type of Modem you have . Usually it will be on Wan > Dsl Parameters, you'll see line attentuation , uplink , downlink it will be in db like 40db up and 24db down.
Hope that helps . . . I had a similar problem and had to replace the modem as it was over-heating and causing disconnection of dsl. After replacing the crappy bsnl modem with a D-Link everything was right again.

    Cheers, Mus

Its generaly listed on System Information page. But It varies from modem to modem. Just browse through the page and dont change any values etc. And you'll find it.

Go to the following page for more info on SNR.

ok 9 is pretty low.. you need to ensure that all telephones are connected after splitter.. do this.. disconnect all telephones temporarily and then reboot modem and then check your SNR to see if its improved

talktoanil's stats are much better than neil_x.rated.
with 9dB frequent disconnection is imminent.

Directly connect your line with modem and see if that improves SNR . If so then there's something wrong with Splitter or wires. If not then you'll probably need to call up BSNL and have the LINE wire changed from the local distribution point to your home.

No. of Users in my area were less. Not anymore. I can't enjoy the better speeds during night UL any more. I used to get 300 KBps all the time. Now its capped at 230 KBps during day. At night it varies. Lucky you.

During my recent interactions with BSNL (My interactions with BSNL), I had the modem tested at BSNL office. At that time my SNR at home was 6 db and therabouts. At the exchange, this was a whopping 67 db.

So SNR margin decreases as the distance from exchange increases.

Having said that, the lineman repaired my line and assigned a new port at the exchange. My SNR is now a consistent 30+ db.
