Default BSNL DSL connection drops automatically after some time

I recently signed up for BSNL broadband, and installed UT-300R2U modem in PPPoE mode. The only reason I have a broadband connection at home is because I have an IP phone (ATA) that requires broadband, and is connected to the Ethernet port of the modem. The ATA, however, works only erratically. When starting from reset, it works initially, but after some time, it loses internet connectivity, and the registration fails.

I am suspecting that there is some setting within the DSL modem that is causing the PPPoE connection to close after some time (say, due to inactivity). However, I could not find any such option in the modem's settings. Does anyone have a clue?

Strangely enough, if I disconnect the ATA, connect my laptop to the modem, the laptop internet works, and then if I connect the ATA again, the ATA also works for some time (but drops the connection after some time again).

The same ATA with exact same settings works without any problems at my parents' house (my parents also have the BSNL broadband). This makes me believe that there is some option within the modem configuration that I am missing.

Any help would be really appreciated. Thank you in advance.

    for Intermittent connections:
    Keep mod GDMT/T413/glite bitswap enabled
only in access page. Uncheck rest and try.

    full instructions:
    New Page 1

    Para two : ATA
Give model number of your ATA .
    what is the IP recommended?
    ( For Vonage mine 192.168.15.1)

Can you try with other modem
    ( model Number ?) of your parent's
with ATA in your house ?
You have to re enter your user ID and
    PW in the modem.
    Rest no changes .
This is to check line conditions.

Strangely enough, if I disconnect the ATA, connect my laptop to the modem, the laptop internet works
In the modem check whether DNS is entered.
    try 208.67.220 and 208.67.222.222

Just to confirm any line problem
go to Statistics and select ADSL
Post SNR ATTN details for both D/L and U/L
