Point to point protocol over ethernet. In this authentication is done at every point started from modem itself to DSLAM

Basically there are two modes of connecting to the DSLAM (establishing the connection). One is the pppoe mode and the other is the bridged mode. In pppoe mode, the router authenticates the username/password. In bridged mode, the OS authenticates the username/password using a suitable client.

No in OPPoe authentication starts from the modem itself but in Bridging mode it will start from Dslam as a result of this some In PPPOE mode sometimes we are having some problem

PPPoE mode makes the connection OS and Driver independent. It lets u access internet directly using ethernet without having to worry about drivers/dialer etc.
