Yes. You can do it via Skype or Yahoo! Mobile. But it is not free.

Skype server is located in Luxembourg. So sitting in India, when you make a Skype call to anywhere else, it is treated as a call from Luxembourg to that country. A call by Skype, to any Indian mobile telephone will cost 15c per minute.

Yahoo server is located in USA. So sitting in India, when you make a Yahoo call to anywhere else, it is treated as a call from USA to that country. A call by Yahoo to Indian mobiles will cost 8c per minute.

Whether, you use Skype or Yahoo, you will have to open an account and deposit credit into the account to make the call.

There are other options as well - such as Vonage VOIP phone. But everything costs money.

There are many posts in the internet and in this forum as well that there are free services available. Do not believe any of them. All Indian operators will charge call termination charges. Hence nothing will be free.

172222 is used for accessing Netone services of BSNL. Its basically an account free internet service, by which anyone having a bsnl landline and a dialup modem can connect to the internet. The usage charges will be billed in the succeeding bill. I am unsure about what u have listed about netone.

And answering the second part of the query, DSL modem can be used for VOIP services, but u need to have an account with a VOIP provider. It cannot be done on-the-fly as asked by u.

and it is used H24 ( except 0000AM-0600AM), like a regular phone , and even when the computer is off.

    Yep,
BSNL have plans to launch VOIP service.
and this is a confirmed news, so here is the source
But the launch date of such thing is unknown,so we have to wait

For residential users, IPTV is often provided in conjunction with Video on Demand and may be bundled with Internet services such as Web access and VoIP. The commercial bundling of IPTV, VoIP and Internet access is referred to as "Triple Play" service (when these three are offered with mobility, the service is referred to as "Quadruple Play"). IPTV is typically supplied by a service provider using a closed network infrastructure. This closed network approach is in competition with the delivery of TV content over the public Internet, called Internet Television. In businesses, IPTV may be used to deliver television content over corporate LANs.

@admin can cut the ending date to Jan 31st). At least will make a difference in quality of posts here.

Do u mean u want to make a normal PSTN to PSTN call but instead of using the handset provided by BSNL u want to use ur laptop/PC?

If thats ur requirement, then simply connect the phone line coming out of the splitter to ur Laptop (in the dial-up modem port) instead of the BSNL instrument. And use the Dialer available within windows, type in the no. u want to call and press call. (u also need a std. headset to listen & talk).

The ADSL Modem is for data only and can not support normal Voice call.
