This info is really misleading. Yes. It is free but there is a usage limit. Don't have the exact details. If you cross that limit, you will be charged accordingly.

I will never give False information
    copy of letter attached
    All CGMs
Free trial offer for Broadband services –Delegation of Powers to CGMs.

Kindly refer to above cited letter regarding delegation of powers to CGMs for
offering free trial scheme for Broadband services in their respective circles for a
maximum period of 15 days at a time. The scheme was valid up to 30-09-2008.
Some of the circles have suggested for extending the period of the above scheme
up to 31-03-2009 to boost up the growth of broadband services and acquire more number
    of customers.
The case has been examined in this office and it has been decided to extend the
period of delegation of powers to CGMs for offering the above scheme up to 31-03-2009.

I never said that you are lying. I am saying that the BSNL information is misleading. People have taken 15 days free offer, downloaded like anything and then they got the bill for excess usage.

    Details of free plan
This is old one of the LAST YEAR and i use free trail plan then i changed it to regular plan
The Free Trial offer re-introduced by corporate office is being made available in the P3 system,
from today late evening. The implementation is just like the last implementation. The free trial
offer will be available under the name “FREE TRIAL PLAN” in the portal. The salient features
and the precautions to be taken while providing this promotional offer are given as below:
    1. Free trial plan is a separate free trial plan with 15 days validity and unlimited usage. The
connection will be de-activated automatically, at the end of 15 days from the date of
provisioning. Node in-charge should not suspend or terminate the free trial
    connections.
    2. The speed available with this plan will be '256 Kbps upto 2Mb' (as in our plan Startup 250).
    3. The node in charge shall ensure that the free broadband connection is given immediately to
the customers after it is provisioned in the P3 system, as the 15 day free trial period starts
from the day of activation in the P3 system.
    4. The modem acquisition type for the free trial customers will be 'Others' and the fixed charge
billing frequency will be 'Monthly'. Only these values will be available for selection from the
portal. For modem acquisition type -'Others', the ‘modem type’ field will not be available for
    selection.
    5. While applying, the customer would have chosen for his regular plan, this is expected to be
captured in SSA level commercial system. Within those 15 days, the plan change can be fed
in p3 portal. All the designated charges like deposits, installation charges will be levied at
time of plan change, as in case of a new connection.
    6. Plan change activity is allowed from the free trial plan to regular BB plan. But the plan
change is not allowed from regular plans to free trial plan.
    7. The field units should not push a termination order for these customers, as these customers
will not be provided with the service after 15 days as the customer is deactivated in the
system. This is very essential because system will not be able to restrict the same customer
(telephone number) from availing the free trial plan twice or more after terminating the earlier
    free trial connection.
    8. In addition, the field units should not carry out the following activities on a customer with free
    plan:

    Suspension

    Reactivation

    Telephone Shift.
    9.
from “Free trial plan to Regular Broad band Plan”.
    10. The new regular connection after the free trial period can also be given to those customers
who apply for regular connection after the expiry of the free trial period. In such cases, the
new connection can be given by plan change as described above.
    11. The billing feed-files for any month (till the Free-Trial offer is in operation) will not contain the
entries for the customers, who will have Free-Trial plan at the end of the respective month.
But for the customers who are migrated to any regular plan in the concerned month, the free
usage as well as gross usage for the Free-Trial plan, will be included in the respective fields.

I have big experience in year 2006 when Calcutta Telephones once offer was present for 2 month trail BB for dialup user but i never apply for that offer suddenly one phone call came in my home are 'you interested to take broadband trail offer'(1st Fab 2006) i asked them about detail they said this is absolute free for 2 month(they never mention about usage) then i replayed when i will take the decision then i will contact with the local exchange but i was astonished the next day BSNL worker came my home and connect BB i asked them 'i did not fill up the form so why you give me connection' they replayed this is absolute free for two month i asked them what will be happen after two month they said 'we will disconnect the BB connection if you not fill up the form within two month' finally they connect the BB with out my single signature.I saw that time in Calcutta Telephones website where clearly written in one pdf file absolute BB free for 2 month
Now after two month nobody came in my home i went to local exchange after 7-8 days they said will go but they never come again i have contacted with them(just three month passed) that time they said you have to apply for surrender order at zonal head office i went there and asked them i never apply for BB then why i will apply for surrender order they said 'you have to do' i did that and that month a big bill has come of 5000 Rs with the usage charge of first two month i asked them why you charged me they said 'only rental free and you have to pay the usage after 0.4 GB'(that time H250 give that much free usage). Then one long battle between me and some the BSNL clerk then i visited to few top officer they one of them help me very much i asked him when i never fill up a form how they charge me for BB they give the connection without my application.Officer agree with me and review my bill again all usage charge he did zero in front of me and only take 3rd month BB rental and my new revised bill he made 1050 Rs which i paid finally i will never forget his cooperation because few clerk already said 'nothing will be happen you have to pay the total amount'.

Exactly rupu. That is what I am saying all along.

I definitely know that there is (was?) as usage limit in the 15-day offer. Whether this has changed or not, I am not sure. But I am fairly confident that there is a usage limit. 0.4GB is right. I had heard of something similar.

I have been even thinking of deleting this thread because it may give misleading information to new users. I invite opinions on this.

Default Misleading information - Thread is closed.

This is the new link: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd- Latest News

It clearly states that there is usage limit of 0.5 GB. So anyone who intends to go for the free 15 days offers, remember this. And read the terms and conditions in the link above.

    I am closing this thread.
