Default New user want to know the Best plan

    Hi,

We are planning to get the BSNL Broadband at home . I went thru the BSNL website and different blogs. Can someone tell me which is the best plan to get if we are going to use internnet only for mails/chat and VOIP phone?

Also can you please tell me how long will it take to get the connection normally?

    Thanks!

Since VOIP requires high transfer of data, i would suggest u stick with the UL plans of BSNL. 256kbps and 512kbps UL plans are provided by BSNL.

The time taken to set the connection varies between exchanges. If there is shortage of ports/modems with the exchange, it might take sometime for the connection to be active. Also if the exchange maintains a priority list, then depending upon the list the time will also vary.

Kindly refrain from making abrassive statements. In your area, maybe you can get BB in one week but there is no SLA for this.

Thanks a lot totallyfandu & cool_techie_tvm for your immediate responses.

I went thru the Tariffs for Home Flexi 350 plan in BSNL site,
Whats that "Maximim Usages Charges for BB inclusive of FMC " which is
    Rs.1500 for this plan alone?

I have one more doubt. If i go for 350 plan, its says maximum downlaod/uplaod is 1.8 GB. so does that mean..if i send couple of photos of size in MBs, it will add to it? What if we see the snaps in Picasa?

We already have a landline, Do we have any security deposits? and whats that different type of modems and which one we should go for?

    Sorry for too many questions.

    Thanks

i would recommend u to go for the cheapest unlimited plan of bsnl ... it happens generally that after using internet for some days at home ppl realize their needs for more download ...

OK. Let me also warn you of the internet. It is pretty addictive. At the moment you are saying mails/chat and VOIP. But soon chat/VOIP will progress to video chat. Casual surfing will lead to YouTube. You will be tempted to download the latest movie.

So my advice is that you start with UL750+ plan that gives you unlimited usage 24x7 @ 256 kbps (32 kB/s) for Rs. 750 plus tax. Note that there are two plans - UL750 and UL750+. Take the plus plan because in that plan landline rent is waived off.

Analyse your usage and then either continue in the same plan or switch to a higher speed plan that provides limited usage.

Refer to my earlier post. When you take a limited usage plan everything is counted - surfing, photos download/upload, text chat, voice calls, video calls, file downloads, file uploads, etc.

Thanks for the details again. Guess its good to go to 750 itself. In that case we have to pay Rs.7500 annually? whats the difference between UL 750 & UL 750 plus?

Yes you can go for 750+. One instance! In my case, I wanted to go for 750UL+ plan at the begining. But the BSNL people told me that for 750UL+ plan I have to take a new Landline connection other wise they will provide me only 750UL. Later on I post a thread in this forum and the forum member replies me that I can took 750UL + with my old LL connection. I took the print out of the posts and shoe it to BSNL. and then they agree to provide me the same. In this cennection I called BSNL BB Castomer care at 18004241600, they also told me that I can not take UL750+.

In UL 750+ the rent of LL is NIL & all calls are charged @ Re.1/pulse

In UL 750, the LL plan runs parallel. So LL Rent is extra as per plan chosen & pulse also as per plan chosen. So u can have LL plans like Special Plus (1000 Calls for Rs.975, addl. call @ Re.1) Super (1500 Calls for Rs.1450, addl. call @ 90p) Premuim (3000 Calls for Rs.2450, addl. call @ 80p).

So UL750 is good for the heavy users of LL & UL750+ is good for the average user of LL.

    Thank you all.

So Panchabhut, from what you said, if i take 750+ I have to pay 750Rs and also if i make any calls in phone thats charged Rs.1/pulse? So 750 rupees is purely for net? Did i get that correct?
