are you sure, cause wen i try on an web based messenger, it works ok
do i need to open ports or msn msngr or no? cause i tried that too........and i even disabled my firewall
Its working for me right now. Have u checked out Most Frequently Asked Questions ?
u said u have the same router, rite? so how do u open ports, i tried following the guide on portforward.com but it still shows ERROR, port not opened
in the NAT RULE ADD page what should i fill in Local Address From: and Local Address To:
Service Status
What is the error message you get ?
How do u connect? U dial the connection? Or the connection gets connected as soon as u switch on the modem?
it gets connected as soon as i switch the modem on
what about IF Name and Protocol what to fill in that?
my Lan card is manually configured 192.168.1.100 so i filled that in both local address fields and both global address i filled in 0.0.0.0 as u said but then when i check if the port is opened it says ERROR Port 11124 does not appear to be open.

Try configuring like this.
Also ensure u save this configuration (D-Link -> Quick Configuration -> Save & Reboot)Code:Rule Flavor: RDR IF Name: ALL Protocol: ANY Local Address From: 192.168.1.100 Local Address To: 192.168.1.100 Global Address From: 0.0.0.0 Global Address To: 0.0.0.0 Destination Port From: 11124 Destination Port To: 11124 Local Port: 11124
i did the exact thing u said, but still it shows the same error
I am sorry, i tried the best, now its the waiting game. I invite fellow board members to pour in their views..
I found the same from D This is the configuration for GLB-502 modem.
Step 1 Open your browser, enter the IP address of your router (192.168.1.1) and click OK.
Step 2 Enter your username (admin) and the password would be admin, which is the default password. Click OK to enter the web configuration page for the device.
Step 3 Click on Advanced tab and then click on LAN Clients and add the IP address of the computer/device you want to forward ports for.
Step 4 Click on the Advanced tab and click on port forwarding on the left side.
Step 5 Click on user and create a new rule.
Give the rule name and select the TCP and UDP both as the protocol, and specify port start, port end and port map. You need to verify the port number to be forwarded.
Click on apply and add it to the applied rules and now click on Tools - System commands and save all and restart.

this may help:
MSN Messenger Sign-in Problems | Cow's Blogquick fix by adding the following to the hosts file:
65.54.239.80 messenger.hotmail.com
65.54.239.80 dp.msnmessenger.akadns.net
On Windows XP, you can usually find the Hosts file at C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC\hosts.
You can remove these two lines after a few days when the issue should be sorted.
Alternatively, you can sign in using Web Messenger.
It’s amazingly annoying when there are downtime issues or other technical difficulties with MSN Messenger. It used to happen all the time but more recently it’s been getting pretty good. I’ve said quite a few times that one should always have another IM program such as Yahoo or Jabber for times like this but it’s really problematic as nobody else has them.

i tried both and every other solution i could find on the net
i can also tell you 1 thing, i have the old Internet Explorer that comes default with Windows XP, could that be a problem?
since i have shifted to BSNL im having problems with the ports and msn messenger, i don knoe why this is happening, i used to never hav this problem with my other connection
U need to keep something in mind. BSNL does not block any specific ports. If nothing is working out, i would suggest a clean re installation of the OS after making necessary backup. Else u can try alternative messenger clients such as pidgin.
Jindly checkout Pidgin, the universal chat client
ive tried connecting with Trillain, only yahoo connects through it, but not MSN
so im gonna try Pidgin as u said
ok i just tried Pidgin, but still i dosent work
i also installed the new IE
what should i do now?

hmmm... just as a check .. have you tried to login to msn using some third party client which provides access to multiple IM services ? try one of them and see whether you are able to login or not:
try these:
Cerulean Studios: Creators of Trillian and Trillian Pro Instant Messengers
meebo - online web IM for AIM, MSN, Yahoo, Google Talk messengers
Web and Mobile messenger everywhere - eBuddy former e-messenger
it gets connected through web IM, but not through Live messenger, could there be some thing wrong with XP?
