Smile Is there a way to increase the snr margin value

hello guys. This is my 1st thread.

i have a ul750+ plan. i get speeds of 30KB and above for normal downloads and between 20-27KB for torrents. my d/l snr value is around 10db. u/l is 33db.
i heard that higher snr values will stabilize the connection. so is there a way to increase the snr value.

Any help will be appreaciated. thanx.

U are on UL 750 plan which is having 256kbps set as its maximum speed. This 256kbps = 32 kBps. Since u are always getting speeds of the order of 27-30 kBps, an increase of SNR is not going to bring any change in the speeds.

Alternatively u can do some steps to increase the SNR. Check the telephone line contacts are clear and free from rust/oxidation. Also if possible shorten the length of telephone wire entering the splitter. Avoid joints and open cuts in the telephone line.

1.you are getting normal speed in your plan.
2.Your SNR (downstream) is low,so at first you contact your local exchange they can perfect your line(usually i did when i face such problem).High SNR will give you stable connection what is atten value ? i think it more important for speed.

You alone cannot do much to increase SNR value. Members like essbebe, whitestar_999 and Superprash2003 have advised changing the mode to G.DMT. In my case it did not help much.

SNR values are low because the problem is basically in the telephone cable, joints and equipment. cool_techie_tvm has explained this also.

The attenuation is largely dependent upon the distance of your premises from the exchange. So if your residence is quite at a distance from the exchange please do not expect miracles.

i stay around 2.5 to 3 km form the exchange. surly this is not that far. i have friends who stay more than 10 km frm exchange and still get 30db snr and 12 or 13db line atten.

    1.Try a different router , if possible.

2.or if modem/router taken on rent exchange it.

    3. Probably your friends are using
different routers/and may be new lines
have been laid . OFC ?

    4.Suggested : not tried.
Instead of Rj11 telephone wire ,
use a pair from RJ45 cable, and attach Rj11
    connectors.

    5. If the Rj11 cable is having 4 wires
( for extension) remove one pair from junction to modem.

    Para two:
    Your speed is 256Kbps.
    check with ADSL2+ mod selected
snr and attn. Then select Only GDMT/T413/Glite
    and check SNR/ATTN
A 3db increase in SNR also will make a difference. .
    similarly in attenuation.

Always mention modem/model/make in your posts.

    Update 0835AM

    modem 110BX1 30th jan 2009 Time 0825AM

    Mode: ADSL2+
    Line Coding: Trellis On
    Status: No Defect
    Link Power State: L0

    ..................... Downstream Upstream
SNR Margin (dB): 35.4 23.5 ( SNR higher)
Attenuation (dB): 20.5 6.9 (*attn higher)
Output Power (dBm): 10.4 25.6 (*dont care)
    Attainable Rate (Kbps):14744 45248 (*highspeed )
    Rate (Kbps): 2047 510
    (*2Mbps line )

    Mode: G.DMT
    Type: Interleave
    Line Coding: Trellis On
    Status: No Defect
    Link Power State: L0

    ...................... Downstream Upstream
    SNR Margin (dB): 32.9 25.0 (* decreased)
    Attenuation (dB): 16.0 3.0 ( * attn lower)
Output Power (dBm): 12.3 14.9 (* dont care)
Attainable Rate (Kbps): 8992 1024 (*stable)
    Rate (Kbps): 2048 512(*2mbps line)
    (* comments)
For intermittent connections also GDMT recommended.
It is also worth pointing out that attenuation is calculated differently for adsl and adsl2+, and its not unusual to see an increase of 3-4 db when moving from adsl1 to adsl2+.
