Post BSNL Broadband Problem

Hi friends, I am on BSNL Home 500 plan and from Kolkata. My problem is that after connecting to the internet everything is normal (browser opening every site), but after sometime there is no data transfer (only the sending light of the dial up icon blinks). I have to disconnect the connection and after reconnecting it works fine again but after sometime there is again no data transfer. This happens very frequently. Sometimes i have to reboot the modem otherwise the system doesnt get connected to the internet. I have called the BSNL CC and they say that my computer is affected with spywares and viruses. I have done a full virus scan and removed everything (viruses). I have reformatted my hard disk, loaded a fresh copy of OS but still the problem persists. Is the problem with the BSNL servers? They say their servers are working fine. Please help me out. Thankyou.

well, this is a problem not only with BSNL. even i face this problem. the conection remains perfectly fine but the data transfer stops(not completely). new sites cannot be opened till i reboot the router. but you must have noticed, already active torrent downloads doesnt stop. when you try to start new torrent task when this happens it takes some time to start. i always face this problem on windows xp. i only just start a stopped torrrent task when this happens and keep clicking on "manual connect" until it starts and all sites also open normally. this is a bit tricky . if you are not understanding what i am trying to say plz post. i will try to explain this again.

Exactly, torrents work fine. It happens in Windows 2000 also as i have dual boot. Uptil January 9 this problem didnt arise. Sites were opening normally and the connection was stable. It happened after that. Also when this hang up happens, some sites like wikipedia, rediff open. I didnt understand what u said. Plz explain. Neway which area (kolkata) r u from?

Your computer get affected with spywares and viruses. You have to use a firewall software to protect from the spywares and viruses. Reformat your HDD and install the OS, even if you have the HDD Drive D: or E: format those too. Because if those drive are also affected with spywares and viruses and if you dont format those drive then after clean install the spywares and viruses again spread to your OS again. So format all those drive and clean install and remember to install the Firewall before you connect to the net.
I am Leaving in Kolkata SaltLake. If Possible I can try to help you.
Even you can call me over phone.

Did the problem crop up only recently?

Are u using the modem for sometime? (2-3 years)

Are u in bridged mode or in pppoe mode?

I have asked these questions because old BSNL modems have been known to get heated up quickly and stop functioning. The only way out is to exchange the modem or to cool the modem by using necessary fan arrangements...

Then its surely overheating problem. I presume u must be using Huawei modem, right? If yes, they are well known to get heated up and losing connectivity.

Check the connection with another modem (borrow it from a friend or fiend)

I just quoted my experience along with a couple of Huawei user's experience. Many of us faced this problem after 2 years of procuring the modem. The modem was well known for heating up and BSNL has acknowledged this problem many times. Hence they have switched to other providers like UTStar Nokia-Siemens, ZTE.

The modem on heating up, looses connectivity with the DSLAM. But the connection wont get disconnected. It will appear as if all the websites are offline. We need to reconnect it to proper usage.

Maybe this is an undiscovered problem. I will wait till i get a clearer picture of the scene !!

i cannot tell the exact technical reason for this but follow this procedure when this problem occurs and you wont have to reboot your router/modem:

1) open a torrent client

2) double click on a pending torrent task/or a new task/or a already completed task(seeding)

3) the torrents wont start immediately and you will see this symbol '>>' in case of bitcomet/bitlord (only the already running torrents will keep on working fine).

4) force start such torrents my continuosly clicking on "manual connect" option (4-5 times). after a while the torrent will start.

5) you are done. the connection problem is solved. you can also open any sites as before. this happens all day with me after an interval of about 2-3 hrs.

this is what i tried to explain in my first post on this thread. but that wasnt clear enough.

Now i know that all the bandwidth is occupied by torrents and we are unable to open sites when we close torrents then only we open sites

Hey friends things are back to normal ! Sites are opening fine but with a little delay. Hope BSNL officials are working on it and this will also get sorted out.
