which DNS server is best for BSNL, i have currently set mine to OpenDNS.
Some of the DNS servers which can be widely employed in tandem with BSNL Broadband are listed below.
Taken from my community in Orkut (orkut -)BSNL DNS Servers :
218.248.240.21
218.248.240.23
218.248.240.24
218.248.240.79
218.248.240.135
218.248.240.141
218.248.240.181
218.248.240.208
218.248.240.209

220.226.206.216
220.226.206.217
Amongst these i prefer OpenDNS, Singtel, Level 3 Comm .
OpenDNS, Singtel and Level 3 Comm..... Are these servers good for torrent downloading and HTTP downloading, like Rapidshare and megaupload?
they are good for direct downloading
DNS plays no part in speeding up downloads - direct or p2p. DNS will only help in resolution of URL to IP address. A good DNS will take less time to resolve as compared to the so called bad DNS.
which are the best for high bandwidth sites like Youtube, MSN, etc.....i want only one option....either OpenDNS or Lvl. 3 Com.
There is no need of DNS for high bandwidth.
Buddy, you need to understand DNS, DNS is like a phone directory service.
where duration of call doesn't depend on time taking in translating a name to a phone no. you can talk for 1hr or 1sec, the translation would happen only once
Hope you got my Point.
Btw, about DNS on Wikipedia for more![]()
i understand what u said......but then y so wen i download any setup it spikes to 64kbps then reduces to 22kbps and then it variates....y like that?
im on Home UL 1350.
HTTP downloads
i tried downloading Live Messenger, but still the speed variates
Network Speed or Bandwidth depends on lot of factors like ISP server load, distance from exchange, network throughput, routing etc.
Maybe the fact there in your area load on the ISP server might high, due to large no of users or any other reason like the server might be overloaded
essentially by Nature, Internet is a Best-effort network. so no minimum performance is Guaranteed.
okie, now i understand the fact.
btw, i returned my dlink router and purchased a Linksys WAG54G2, how do i set my DNS in the router?
and does IDM work with Firefox 3 and Safari?
put DNS in auto mode then all sites will open with 98% efficiency
When the download starts, initially there is always a burst. This does not last more than 3-4 seconds. After that burst the speed gradually settles down to the actual.
As I said in my post and what Gary4gar also said, DNS does not take any part in a file download.

then y is my download speed in utorrent only 51kbps?? is it my antivirus, im using NIS2009 genuine copy.......does it interfere with utorrent? or does it suck up some % of the bandwidth
You torrent could be slow because your port may not be forwarded properly. There are lot of articles on this topic in this forum.
ports are forwarded correctly, im using port 11124 over a Linksys WAG54G2 router, i can post screenshots if needed
what should be my settings in utorrent under Bandwidth for
Global maximum number of connections:
Maximum number of connected peers per torrent:
Number of upload slots per torrent:
