Default Any bsnl plan that isn't totally useless ?

I'm using the BSNL home500 plan and it's complete garbage; the download speeds are retarded slow, and the connection is extremely erratic.

If you check the speed on any standard internet bandwidth speed test it varies anywhere between 100kbps and 1Mbps - this basically implies an extremely unreliable connection.

Streaming video seems to be some kind of a sick joke - even the lowest resolution youtube videos are a pain to watch.

On top of all this the download limit is rather pathetic at a measly 2GB.

From what I've heard the unlimited packages are typically even slower.
Is broadband in India just generally worthless like this ?

Most other countries have 4-5Mbps connections that are *always* unlimited. Why do we have to put up with this garbage in india ?

Hmm...I really think the speed of broadband depends on ur city and location, even for the same plans!

However, I am very satisfied with my Home1000 BSNL connection in North Bangalore. During normal hours, I typically see speeds (using speedtest.net) of 2-3 Mbps (!) from the Mumbai test server. Upload speed is around 500 kbps to the Mumbai test server.

I've tried it with different servers around the world...download from San Francisco's 'Unwired' is around 1 Mbps and upload around 300 kbps.

Speed during night unlimited is of course a lot slower, but good enough for my torrent purposes wherein I can easily download 1-1.5 GB per night depending on the torrent networks.

The only qualm I have with the BSNL service is that speed for browsing/playing online games/etc. past 2 am is quite hindering even with no torrents running...but since I rarely do this it's not a very big problem.

What are the speeds being experienced by u while doing http downloads and torrenting? I am getting a consistent 220 kBps and 180 kBps everytime.

Please post in your line details if u think something is wrong with your connection.

just tested again :
speedtest.net :
241 kbps download
104 kbps upload

How is this considered "broadband" in india when the term typically implies a consistent 1Mbps at the very least. Even watching youtube videos doesn't seem feasible with the shitbad speed and unreasonable 2.5 gb (lol) download limit.

I also find it quite sad that BSNL keeps putting "up to 2Mbps" in the tariffs when in reality the speeds average around 300ish Kbps at the most.

What would be better out of Home1000 and HomeUL 1350 ?
Are unlimited plans typically worse ? Everything on the BSNL tariff website is vague as usual and the "up to 2Mbps" bullshit is everywhere adding to the confusion.

Check what ? I'm quite positive my PC is fine, in fact I'm yet to see anyone with better consistent speeds on Home500. It's quite simple really, go to any decent bandwidth speed test site and see the results.

Because almost everyone told me that the unlimited plans typically have worse average speeds.
