    Default Help please. Problem with the connection.

    I have a concern. I don't know whether this is a problem due to bad modem or due to the telephone line. My broadband connection was first setup in such a way that, my modem (Huawei mt880 adsl) connects automatically without having to enter the username and password as in a dialup connection. Initially I was fine with it because it used to connect at the max of 30 mins - 1 hour. But recently for the past four months there is a problem. It is now not connecting even after 4 hours. After it is connected, there is no problem, but the speed is sometimes very slow reaching not even 512kbps. My friend who has BSNL connection but uses username and password to connect to the internet everytime, is able to connect immediately. How can I change this setting? Is this a problem with my modem? It has been around 3 years since I got this modem. Please help anyone.

    First. You have not activated your account. Please click on the link in the mail you received from the forum admin in your mailbox. Failure to do so will cause all your posts go into moderation.

    Secondly. I am dumb founded. 30 mins to 1 hour to connect? And now 4 hours to connect? There is something seriously wrong with your modem or line. You must contact BSNL for help.

    But BTW, you are using PPPoE mode (username & password is stored in modem and it connects automatically). You can change to Bridge mode. You need to mention your modem manufacturer and model number. You can have a look at the many guides posted in the Broadband How to section.

    Contrary to popular belief, I have received support from BSNL, though not immediately.

    You can have a look at this site for Modem configurations: BSNL BROADBAND MAIN MENU

    MT-880 is not mentioned but MT-882 is available and may not be much different.

    @kingdukenukem

    It has been around 3 years since I got this modem. Please help anyone
    Better LATE than never!
    question 1:
    Have you updated your Computer's OS? is it XP?
    Suggestion1:
    In your computer In IE type the following.
    210.212.160.18/broadband-conf/type1.htm
    follow the instructions.
    Give feedback.

    New Page 1
    Hint:
    Use your UserID without @ dataone in.
    in WAN page. You may have to click the "NOTE"icon.

    Suggestion 2:
    Still problem low speed/no connection etc.
    START run TYPE cmd TYPE ipconfig/all
    give details here.

    Suggestion 3:
    Open www.speedtest.net server Mumbai
    report the speed results.
    if you can copy the result link , post it here.

    Para two: uPDATE : 1815pm
    Sorry. I did not know that you are computer savvy.
    Your post from another thread.
    Are you using the wifi modem on a desktop? If so, if this is having a wireless nic, try disabling it. First type ipconfig/all in the command prompt and post the results with a screenshot.

    Thanks for the info. But that is what I have already as shown in the screenshots in "New Page 1". I would like to have the broadband as a dialup. Not as the one which automatically connects. Do you know how to change it?

    Kindly checkout System Requirement for Broadband connection

    In the page, in the Step 4, instead of choosing Connection Type as PPP, choose it as RFC2684Bridged. Make sure that the appropriate VCI/VPI values are entered. 35/0. Continue until Step 8 , omitting Steps 5 and 6.

    After rebooting the modem, create a new connection, by starting the New Connection Wizard in the Network Connections..

    Please revert back if u face any problems...

    @kingdukenukem from POST 8.
    My modem is huawei mt880. I will try bridging my modem. Do you have the instructions for this model
    You have to select from menu shown on left WAN
    see annexure for screen shot. for correct settings.
    same as seen in picture. click APPLY.
    You have to use a PPPoE dialer.

    Default Thanks

    Thanks for the instructions, but I've tried that already. I am really confused where the problem is exactly? When I turn on the modem, only the power(green) and the LAN link lights(amber) are solid. The LAN activity light(green) is occassionally blinking as if it is trying to connect. Even after few minutes, the ADSL link light is not solid nor blinking. It takes hours to connect automaticallyBut when the modem connects, it is working properly and I'm able to use full 2Mbps speed. Any suggestions?

    Default Mt880

    Post screen shot of the "Summary "page
    Probably MOd selected is adsl2+.
    Changing it to GDMT may help.
    Also enable bitswap , if option available.

    Default Huawei AX Mt882 purpose of "NOTE" icon.

    In the condition shown in the screen shot
    ( with "Note" Icon on ) check Diagnostics page.
    Did you click the "NOTE"icon shown in
    Summary page ?

    2.I have noticed in my MT882, after switching on the
    modem even if all the other settings are correct
    I have to open "Summary" page and
    click the "Note" icon to get connected.
    ===============================
    REQUEST:
    Please post picture as annexure or
    upload in say tinypic.com and give the link here.
    scrolling the page left to right is tiring. Thanks.
    =================================
    3.IN FF this does not appear.
    and I cannot connect to Internet.
    Switch to IE with IETAB activate "NOTE"
    get connected . then back to FF.

    I am on :Always On : ppp/PPPoE mode.
    May be if you use "Bridged" dialer mode.
    this may not be needed.

    Please confirm.
