    Default Error 691 in Dataone and Upgradation in BSNL

    Dear friend! Yesterday morning, I got the error 691 while dialing the BB connection then I called some of my friends regarding this. They told me that They are also getting the same error and they can not connect to NET. But In the evening My problem was solved by BSNL(Without any complain to BSNL). But today in my office I am getting the same error message, Then I called BSNL about the problem, they told me that some up gradation is going on and thats why these things are happening.

    Now my question is
    1. Do you people are facing this type of problem?
    2. Is it a sign for increasing bandwidth or a routine upgrade??

    As this is a time when new plans are introduced.

    Yes u heard it right. BSNL is currently adding strength to its backbone networks in every state. Hence disconnections and such errors are a common phenomenon. As of today they are in the process of bridging the old NIB 1 network and the newer NIB 2 network.

    The upgradation is done in parts as they cannot blackout the entire state.

    If the errors are persisting, then delete the existing connection and create a new pppoe connection using the new connection wizard..

    Although i have face this error(691) twice in last four month but not in last few days but when i complaint it BSNL either they say network upgrading or server problem due to this error but still i did not find any upgradation in BB but still if this is true that BSNL upgrading bandwidth or else then it's good news.
    Then I hope lot of low speed problem of various user will solve or may be BSNL will announce 1 mbps UL plan.:thumbup:

    This type of problem generally happens. But our local exchange never give any wrong information to at least me till date. As in my post, I told you that today I was facing the problem in my office and yesterday at my home. in this regard he asked me about the condition of my home connection and also told me that my home connection was upgraded yesterday as I was the first Broadband customer in my town and thus he could remember me.

    But what was the up gradation I could not tell you and that is why I am asking here that any other member, who are facing such trouble for this type of up gradation.

    The error primarily occurs whenever they are meddling with the DSLAM. If it doesnt go after sometime, try deleting and creating a newer pppoe connection as mentioned in my previous post. Or better switch to pppoe mode in the router and verify whether it is getting connected.

    I have tried both dial up and always on mode. Dial up mode gives 691 error and in always on mode it shows authentication failure. And I can say that really the up gradation is going on as one of my friend was facing such problem today in our locality and he comes to my house and checked his user id and password and astonishingly userid and password was accepted from my home and then I checked my userid and password with his connection & the result was same.

    Hence it can be concluded that at least resetting of port binding for BB connection is going on. As My connection is port binded I know but ........

    But the up gradation is in which direction I can not say.

    Yes the port-binding is disabled when maintenance work is being carried out.

    I am also facing similar problems for last 8-9 days

    Problem Error-691: Description:User ID and password problem.

    Remedy: The case is to be referred to central Broadband Team on 12678 or 23234770 (08.00AMto 08.00PM) Central Board band Team will reset the password and intimate back to you

    From the system, you are accessing Internet, please open your Usage portal and Go to change Password page.
    re enter your old password.
    Now try from your telephone again, to access
    internet with your Id and password.
    If still problem,only the Exchange can reset the password.

    Note: If your Ip is 59.xx.xx.xx will not work on other ISP.

    Please ignore if not useful or problem solved

    691 error is not a problem for me. I only want to know that any upgradation regarding Bandwidth or Plans is going on or not. The problem is solved within 5 min by BSNL. I told you that the BSNL emplyee in our locality are very much helpfull.

    Try PMing someone named totallyfandu1 (totallyfandu was his original id in the forum). He has close ties with BSNL broadband division and can answer your query..

    I am struggling with Error 678 & Error 691 from past 2 weeks

    anyone know how long will this maintance take?

    and, is there any increase in bandwidth after upgradation of network?

    Didnt u contact the nearest internet exchange? What was their take on the time frame required for completion of network upgradation?

    I filed a complaint quite a few times & everytime they call me to say your problem has been resolved. indeed problem goes!


    But after few days, it problem popes again and i complained yet again. then, also they resolved it.

    Now, i have stopped complaing as BB services comes back to normal after few hours of downtime.

    But still no idea, how long this maintaince work would take
