Unhappy BSNL DSL suddenly not working on Mac, Working fine on Windows

Yesterday, Friday 13`th, I was working on the internet as usual on my
    - BSNL 1350 unlimited plan
    - Macbook Pro w/ Mac OS 10.5 Operating System
    - Siemens SL2_141 Modem

Suddenly at around 7PM, the sites were not opening anymore. I tried reconnecting, it got connected, got the IP but there was no data transfer. I tried restarting modem, the same thing happens.

Now, today I opened a virtual system, Parallels, to run Windows XP and connected as usual by creating a dial up connection, and its working fine. Data is being transferred both sides, all sites are opening fine.

Then on MacOS, I tried deleting the current connection profile and created a new one with same username/password but the problem is same. Again its getting connected but no Data transfer.

** By No Data transfer I mean, apps are sending request but there is no reply. For e.g Browsers give not found / timeout error .

I guess u are in bridged mode. Do u dial the connection by yourself? Or u have saved the credentials in the modem and u simply switch it on so that the net gets connected? If u dial the connection out by yourself u are in bridged mode. If the modem does that for u, u are in PPPoE mode/router mode. This is important for troubleshooting purposes, hence i am clinging on to this point.

If u are in bridged mode, please delete the existing connection and recreate a new connection and try dialing it. Make sure that u have set the DNS address as 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220.

The connection is being established right? Did u try pinging websites like google? What was the result? Are u able to ping any websites?

Yes, connection established. I tried pinging google.com. It shows Unknown host after few minutes.

Strange. The connection is established. Yet u are not able to ping. U have changed the DNS server address too. Yet not able to ping.

But the same connection is working with Win XP, right?

I will reserve my comments. But it seems like an OS specific issue..

Yeah, I too think so. I can see the recieving data through ethernet on my mac's istats app when Im downloading on windows.

Can we make this a PPPoE connection so that Modem dials it and we just need to connect it ? If so, I can try if that works on mac.

Kindly checkout SL2_141 ADSL MODEM (Type-B) MENU for configuring the modem in pppoe mode. The modem will dial out the connection as soon as it is switched on. ADSL Config for multiuse is the link u should be looking into.

Make sure to enter the appropriate DNS (preferably OpenDNS)

    @cool_techie_tvm

    Thanks man.

Now, Its definetely macs problem. After I made it PPPoE, to dial it by itself. Mac still doesn't open internet. But Windows, which basically runs on the mac opens it fine !

LOL ! It "Suddenly" came back. Everythings back to normal and im grinning like anything while typing this.
After making it PPPoE, I had flushed the DNS. Maybe its that.

Anyway, thanks to cool_techie_tvm , I don't have to manually connect it anymore.

    P.S (cool_techie_tvm) : Are you from Trivandrum ?
