Well it all depends upon individual tastes. I was forced to use linux while being in Abudhabi. Buy your own software or use linux. That is the policy over there. And see, linux isnt all that tough like proclaimed by many. Its just people are not ready to try their hands on linux.

according to the shop owner in my state u can get a vista ultimate for 500rs.thats what he said.u can get crysis or farcry 2 for 300rs.a few years ago i thought these things were original.but now i know that every dvd shop and computer shop sells pirated stuff.they download a 6 gb game and put it on 2 dvd which cost 20rs.then sell it for rs300.![]()
see thing is most of the hollywood movies, video games software are not available in india ,if they r available they r too costly to buy it
so people use internet via torrents to get to these stuff
i am not encouraging it,but its time to undertsand these problems
price reduction ,availbilty of the product, may cut down the piracy rate
ha ha ha .. ... typical cyber cafe business.... i remember the days when cd-writers were slowly becoming cheaper in india ... not many people used to have it ... it was one of the most profitable assets at that time ... even i earned some bucks using it ... the cyber cafes and media libraries used to charge about Rs. 100-150 for burning a CD ...
but they r selling only selected movie not all,i bought fiza dvd of mosaer baer, the sound was horrible ,no 5.1 ,it was just stero
Almost all Hindi movies that are now available on DVD are priced from Rs. 45/- to Rs. 99/-. Moser Baer started the trend with low cost DVDs/VCDs. The others such as Shemaroo, Bombino, etc. have followed suit.
The problem is only with English movie DVDs that are still Rs. 500+.

i agree with english movies , if a english movie dvd is 500+ ,then think abt blue ray , it will cost some 2000+ if its introduce in india
LOL. I will wonder when Blu-Ray will come to India. DVDs arrived (in real sense) only a couple of years ago.
I first saw a DVD in USA in 1998. That time they were retailing around $25 + which is similar to what Blu-Ray discs are being priced right now. DVD players were intially priced at $500+ and by 2001 they had dropped to $100 to $200. Blu-Ray players were initially retailing for $1000 and now they are $200 to $300 range.
So my guess is that in a couple of years, Blu-Ray prices will drop by at least $10 ($19.99 from $29.99). It is all about demand and supply. When more people buy BD players, the demand for disc will rise significantly and cost per disc will be reduced because of volume sales. I expect that this will happen by end of 2009.
They usually don't have good quality disc's
Still lightscribe or DL dvd's haven't become mainstream in India(not movie dvd, blank media), I wonder even if we get Blue ray, media is gonna be a problem except ofcourse when its used only for movies and the like.

I somehow think that blank media may not become extremely popular - now that 1 TB+ HDDs are available at affordable prices. They will sell but not in the same volume as blank CDs did.
Yea, true cost/Gb of HDD have become lower, but still higher than DVD media.
I'd really love to be able to store 25 gb in a sub 20 rs media![]()
a bit offtopic..
DL blank DVDs still cost almost about Rs.300 per piece in india. i wonder how the DL pirated movie DVDs (containing 3-4 HQ movies i.e. more than 4.37 gb i.e. DL) are sold for 70-80 bucks? i always wanted to clear this point. can anyone explain this?
^^^ I don't think the high cost of those media are justified... The marketers are just taking advantage of the situation to charge us more, but in reality it will cost them a fraction of the original cost.
Saurav,
Commercial DVDs (including pirated ones) are never burnt. They are pressed.
Most of these pirated DVDs originate from factories in China, Malayasia, etc. A master is created and the duplicating machines take over. The duplicating machines use a plain transparent plastic disc. On the bottom side, the silver film is directly pressed and on the top side the cover is pressed.
For blank media, the similar process is used, except that instead of the written film, a writeable film is pressed.

thanks a lot j4k for the info. but this raised one more question in my mind. if DL pirated dvds can be produced at such low costs, why are no chinese blank media brands doing the same by introducing low price DL blank DVDs? it would instantly be a success. i mean if these pirated DL dvds are created and burnt and then sold for 70-80 bucks in india keeping some margin for profit - then why is the rate of DL blank media almost 5 times these rates?

Whoa...wait a minute before passing judgements.
I know the difference between a regular blank dvd and a DL blank DVD. I have been using them for nearly 2 years now. Infact I use them to burn large iso images.
and speaking of regular blank DVDs I get a 50 pack for 9/- a piece.
