Currently we are on the safer side. Still it is good to be cautious. Indians have a system of following western rules, just like Airtel started fair usage policy. So one day the rules of the country will be strict enough like those of the western countries..until then u r free to be a pirate..
Unless the cost of games, movie DVDs is reasonable piracy will continue to thrive.
Why are Swedes pirating anyway? Some movies/games aren't available in India so that's why ppl do it.Why would someone from a developed country do it when they can buy them?
Most of the piracy hubs were located in Sweden because they had loose anti-piracy laws. Now things have changed and such portals are looking elsewhere to host their websites.
Whats this crap is doing in this BSNL BB section!!
Well India is a free country and it will be a free country forever so keep doing what you are doing![]()
That is too much to hope. Was Airtel's policies expected to ever happen in India? And that too with measly 384 kbps speeds?
i think you are talking about piratebay.. BBC NEWS | Technology | Pirate Bay joy at charge change .. wonder how they get away !!
well ... piracy is being dealt with very seriously in recent times in many parts of the world ... one of the famous torrent search engines was forced to close down a few months ago ... i wont name it here ... i hope the laws dont get too strict in india soon ...
well ... i was talking about torrentspy in my previous post ... since it is closed now ... so i think no harm in naming it ... simply opening the site will show the cause of it being closed ... it was only a torrent search site like torrentz hosted in us...
There is no harm in mentioning sites - as long as you are not advocating piracy, that is OK.
I am an avid supporter of buying genuine. I know that it is not everybody's cup of tea to buy everything genuine but then do you really need everything and anything that is available? People often blame high prices for piracy. I do not agree wholeheartedly.
People uses pirated software because it is so easy to duplicate and freely available.
- People will spend 40K plus on a PC but will not spend a paisa on software.
- People will buy fancy mobiles of 16K plus and change them every two years but point to expensive prices of software.
- People will spend Rs. 500 in one go at a multiplex (movie + eating out) and this may be done every week but will not buy original DVDs.

Well ... i agree with you .. but not fully ... though i am also not promoting piracy ... but i think one time expenditures on hardware etc are ok... we plan for such expenditures, do reviews and then finally buy something and such hardwares serves the purpose for quite some time. also every hardware has a resale value when one thinks of getting a new one.
but, when it comes to softwares - the needs are very versatile and changes very often. isnt it! imagine someone buying windows xp, vista, win7 in short durations just beacuse he wants to try all of them. isnt it too much costlier ... then comes antiviruses ... etc etc ... one cant keep on buying softwares whenever new versions are released ... softwares cannot also be sold second hand ... so no resale value ..
Why use pirated softwares?
Linux FTW !!
Do you really need to buy XP/Vista/Windows 7 all the time? I don't think so. The life of OS more or less is same as that of the hardware. Life of an OS is almost 6-8 years. I purchased Windows/XP Pro and still using it. I will buy a new OS with my new PC when it happens.
i never installed a single pirated SW in my pc my windows is genuine and i bought office xp pro for 22000 few yrs ago actually i am authentic SW freak now those precious CDs are resting in my drawer.
so dont you ever feel like trying newer versions of windows and office? or are you constraining yourself to save the cost of buying a new one again? dont take me otherwise ...
actually this is the very point i am trying to make here .... if one is satisfied with a purchased software for years ... its ok ... but i think most of us are new technology enthusiasts ... we always want to try new s/ws ... isnt it!!![]()
when new windows vista launched i bought new HP pc with with OEM Vista installed i use 2 pcs with authentic windows, well i use pc for web surfing and voip and use MS office for little work. office 2001 one do my work flawlessly, no there is no constrain on my usage i'm thinking of getting another PC when new Windows 7 will launch.
yup i never use that pirated stuff... as a lot of bill payments, shopping, n what not is done on my comp, and i dont want to be compromising my details... stay safe, use genuine stuff, else try open source sw. as far as going in for new os n all is concerned, i find xp pro to be ideal on my comp... using it since i got it.![]()
DON'T beam me up, Scotty!
@jatinder ..
no need of posting the screenshots dost ... i am not at all doubting what you use ... it was just a discussion on the affordabilty of original softwares ..i hope you didnt take it the wrong way ..

I am not going to buy new OS just because a new version is launched. If your had been in the software field as long as I have been, you will quickly realize that new software brings tons of bugs with them.
And when it comes to MS products, they tend to mess up things quite a bit just like they did with Vista, Office 2007, etc. And sometimes, new versions require much more powerful hardware.
Golden rule: Never fix things that aren't broken.
