Thread: Promotional Scheme of Broadband for Government Employees

In order to boost the acquisition and usage of Broadband among government employees, the competent authority has approved 20% discount on Broadband Service charges (usage and rental) for Broadband connections provided to Central Government/ State Government/ PSU Employees category.
The scheme is to be launched from 1st December 2008 across BSNL network and is a continuous scheme.
The serving and retired government employees applying for Broadband connection under this scheme, should furnish an undertaking countersigned by their Drawing and Disbursing Officer regarding their bonafide along with the application.
In case of retired employees, an attested copy of the Pension Pay Order should be submitted along with the application. The application should be marked as “FOR GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES SCHEME”.
The scheme is also applicable to existing Broadband customers who are serving/retired government employees subject to their furnishing an undertaking as detailed above. The discount of 20% in Broadband Service charges for the existing customers will also be applicable if they apply, from the month of such application.

Anyone using this scheme? Are they really giving the mentioned 20% discount?

I also heard they are giving this discount for only annual payment customers... is that true?????

No, as far i asked from their office, it available on a monthly basis... its available on the annual plans coz already a discount is given.

yes i am using it i gave the details of being govt employee in mid jan & this month i will get 20% discount i inquired with BSNL area manager (my friend) he checked my account & said ill get it this time.... so waiting for the bill

I asked that matter to BSNL customer care employ they said this offer will be available in all BB plan (including limited plan).Now i can say only about Calcutta Telephones.

Problem is 500C/500C+ are not just limited BB plans, they are COMBO plans. so confusion prevails.

No, there is no confusion with 500C plan. I am getting the discount of 20%, i.e., a bill for Rs400+taxes.

Everybody is well aware of that fact.
But the problem is that different circles of BSNL are interpreting the circular in different ways. Particularly when it comes to 500C/500C+ plans. I know that in several circles the BSNL people have refused to apply this scheme to 500C/500C+ plans on the plea that these are not pure Broadband plans but are Combo plans.
Since u seem to have access to all BSNL circulars, if there is any clarifying circular in this regard, this would be the right time to post it.

But unfortunately, the circulars are silent about the applicability of the scheme for 500C/500C+ plans

This scheme is applicable to all plans whether it is 125 or 750 ul . AND TWO NEW CIRCULAR ARE ATTACHED HERE.

Thanks for the circulars. But this new one also does not have much clarity for 500C/500C+ users.
The problem is not with any other plans, whether 125 or 1350UL, as they are pure broadband plans. The problem is in respect of "Combo" plans only. In the absence of specific circulars, over enthusiastic Accounts Dept of several BSNL Circles are refusing the benefit to "Combo" plans on the ground that they are combo plans and include Landline rent component also.

In partial modification of the clarifications issued in the letter under reference, it has been decided by competent authority that the discount at 20% in Broadband fixed monthly charges and usage charges shall be applicable to monthly and annual payment options of all Broadband plans opted by Government/PSU employees.

Sorry, I forgot to see the post. i am in Karnataka Circle, Mysore Division. The BSNL guys are quite friendly here. (It also happens that I have relatives and friends in BSNL)

if you have relatives in BSNL then take in their name the BB connection.... you will have to pay just 100 rs + tax for UL 750 scheme(confirmed news., i am also in karnataka only)

That will be something too generous.

Na, I can't do that, then I would lose their relationship ! In any case, I don't do much of browsing or downloading, I am only interested in downloading some software and checking them how they work, my son is into gaming, I don't allow him to play online games either ! Any way I visit my relatives only when it is absolutely necessary !
