Default One Modem- Two Connections ?

    Hello

I want to access net on two pc's in different rooms.

    Should I go for

    1) Using LAN Crossover Cable
    2) Using Switch or Hub

    Queries :

    1) Which one is cheap & stable way ?

    2) What is the max. stable distance between two computers connected via crossover cable ?

    3) Cost of Switch or hub (for connection two computers only)

    4) Can I use two routers simultaneously in diff. rooms to access net using single net connection ?

    5) Cable used to connect router and LAN (PC) is crossover cable or ??

6.Post the modem/router model make you use at preset.

7 Whether the computers to be used are ,one desktop and another laptop (two computers)

8 If laptop does it have a wireless LAN card /

    9. What is the distance from One room to another in your house/flat/apartment.
    10. You can use Google search to find cost etc availability in your Town/City

U can buy a router for about 2~3k and configure it to function in pppoe mode.

The maximum distance depends upon the type of cable and i think it is 100 mts.

No need to buy two routers for sharing a connection. Router+switch is available as a single device. I am using 2540T, maybe u can check out that too..

    Info:
    Modem 220BX. 2 desktops. distance 15 to 20 meters

    Suggestion:
    10. Use USB port for the computer near the modem.
    ( IP 192.168.1.2 default gateway)

    11. Connect the LAN port of modem with RJ45 to the other computer. ( IP 192.168.1.1)

12.In both computers in TCP/IP properties
    select Obtain IP address automatically.

    13.Cost of Rj45 cable 20 meters approx Rs 100/= to Rs 200/=
Even if you use/buy a switch this cable is required

    14.START/ Network/: computer 1 check USB appears
    ...............................computer 2 check LAN appears.

    FEEDBACK.

if you are using systems in the same house then there are few ways

    1) Go for a wifi modem and use where ever in 30 mts(by BSNL modem, private up 100 mts) if you dont have wifi in system then can install wifi cards

    2) use the current modem itself if it has 2 ethernet ports and connect through the RJ45 cable (approx cat6 cable 15 rs/mtr) maximum distance of cat6 cable is 300mts without hub

    3) if you dont have 2 ethernet port on current modem then buy a hub which i think it will have minimum 8 ports which may cost around 2k (or even less dont know)

choose which ever you feel good, try using cables i trust cable more than wireless...

I am not using modem provided by BSNL.
I am using Beetel 220 bx modem having 1 Ethernet port and 1 usb

Can I connect near pc with USB and other pc using ethernet port.
Here, I want to know, Is the cable, we use to connect modem with pc is crossover cable which we use to connect two pc's for data sharing or something else ?

If it's cross over cable..then I have heard form many people that ...you can use cable upto 15 meters only for stable connection...

i am not sure about the 1st one but my logic says it should work as the router will be in PPPoE mode, whatever the data comes can be sent through both the ways i guess it should work... ill confirm it though....

crossover cable problem is you cant use it to connect to net... you have to connect from PC1 using USB and then using ethernet crossover you have to connect to pc2 so your pc 1 should always be on for you to access net on pc2 or every time you have to unplug and plug the usb cable directly itself...and yes crossover cable can be used max about 20 mts for stable connection ( i have used 20 mts for playing games) hence it is stable...

yes you can access the internet over both the computer but the bandwidth would get divided i mean total would be 2Mbps
but not like 2 Mbps on each system .........

no one mentioned whether i could connect simultaneously. that's why i had a doubt. anyway thanks.
another doubt. if i plan to go wireless should i exchange type 1 modem with type 4 or can i just buy a linksys or netgear wireless router and connect it to type 1 modem?
