Thread: BSNL and wifi router

hello guys till yesterday i was using the default dareglobal bsnl modem through bridged mode.. today my cousin gave me a speedtouch 585 v6 wifi modem.. the thing is i cannot access the speedtouch router's setup page.. i setup my win xp ip and all to dhcp (automatically acquire ip address).. and i restarted.i connected the router through ethernet port.. but when i type speedtouch.lan in firefox it says cannot access.. so what should i do guys.. did i forget to do anything...

3. Open a web browser (Internet Explorer 6/7) and enter in the URL bar http://192.168.1.254 and press enter.
The router's home page will appear asking for Username and password, the Factory default username is Administrator (note capital A) and password admin. You may also find that admin/admin works if an additional user has been setup.............

i had seen that page...the thing is i dont have the cd with me.. cousin lost it.. and in that link it says they can enter the modem configuration page.. and that i cannot do.. i tried dhcp as well as setting my gateway as 192.168.1.254.. but no awail..

Next in the browsers address field (top left) type into the address field http://speedtouch.lan or the IP address 192.168.0.1

This should connect you into the routers set up configuration pages, but any changes you make here should be saved before you exit the router itself, some routers auto-save the changes (config) cannot remember which way the speedtouch does it.

Hmm thanks for the speedy reply essbebe.. but as i said when i set the lan card tcp/ip properties to "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "obtain DNS Server address automatically" and after sometime when i typed ipconfig in command prompt this is what i got

yeah no default gateway.. according to the guide it must automatically become 192.168.1.254.. is there something wrong with the router..?? i tried reseting it and after that also this is what i get..

If unit is new ID is Administrator and
Password ( no entry ) Blank. ( hurried study of Manual )
enter 192.168.1.1 or `198.168.0.1 in TCP/IP properties page. then try in IE

the unit is 2 or 3 years old.. so is the ip address and gateway different..? anyway after giving that ipaddress and all it still isnt working...

With power on press the RESET button, for about
30 or 40 seconds.
Observe any change in the LED lights.
Then try /enter default gateway.192.168.1.254.
Try LAN mode first.
When Initially setting a modem ,
it is advisable to enter the IP
address for computer and modem . in TCP/IP
properties page.

Or try this.
Use the Dare Global modem.
Confirm you get connected to Internet.
Then connect the RJ45 to LAN1 port speed touch router. Another Rj45 from LAN2 to computer.

What error message you get ?

hmm i did what u told essbebe.. and the problem still persisits.. i cant even reset the modem.. its unresponsive.. no change in led.. so i think its some hardware problem..

and the error i got was error:678.. something wrong with the remote computer or something like that.. ah anyway thanks for ur patience.. really thanks..

did you press the reset button for a long time.. it takes time.. unless you get access to your router via http there is no point try dialer!!did you try the repair button in xp

@nimesh, For all your queries, please read the many guides posted in the Broadband How to section.

1. As superprash2003 said above, first thing to do is to RESET the modem.
2. After reseting the modem (to factory settings), connect the (Speedtouch) modem to the PC via LAN cable.
3. Do not connect anything to the modem as yet.
4. Set TCP/IP and DNS settings to automatic (you have already done that).
5. Use ipconfig command (Start --> Run --> cmd --> ipconfig/all).
6. You should see TCP/IP address of your PC and default gateway (IP address of the Speedtouch modem).
7. Default IP address of the modem usually is 192.168.1.1 but not always. Sometimes it could be 192.168.0.1.
8. Open browser, type http://<default gateway> in the address and now you should be able to see the modem's configuration page.
9. If at step [5], you are not getting IP address, then it is possible the modem is faulty.
