Default Not able to connect to the router 192.168.1.1 says page cannot be displayed

    Hello,

I have a bsnl broad band connection from past one week i am not able to connect to the internet. I am not even able to connect to the router(192.168.1.1) it says page cannot be displayed.

Actually when i switch on my modem and after all the initial authentication to the ISP i will be able to coonect to the router buts its very slow. After few mins the internet connection goes for a toss.

I had the exchange people check the modem,my port and telephone line. They say everything is fine. They asked me to get my NIC card checked. But i suppose there is not problem with my NIC card as i am able to ping the default gateway ie 192.168.1.1.

Later in the evening i reinstalled my operating system( Windows XP + SP2) after the re-installation it started working fine but after 10 mins again the problem surfaced.

Could any one tell me what the prob would be?

    Default Assign manual ip

As for as accessing the router setting page 192.168.1.1, 1st assign an ip to your NIC such as 192.168.1.10 as currently the connection is in bridge mode.

as you are new to this forum so ill tell you procedure....

what matrix told is exactly correct...!

go to your local area connection's properties
in tcp/ip connections keep it to :use the following ip address" then in
    ip address = 192.168.1.2
subnet mask = 255.255.255.0 (automatically it will take or else you type it)
    default gateway = 192.168.1.1

now save exit then type in your browser it will work.....

Select your modem/router and check connection diagram etc. ( all phones after splitter etc )

you mean you can ping 192.168.1.1 but not open http://192.168.1.1 ?? hmm.. this is strange.. you may want to reset your modem.. cause if you are able to ping 192.168.1.1 it means your tcp/ip settings are fine!!

I think u have changed the DHCP Server disabled. if u r using bsnl type II modem SL2_141 just reset it. this type of modem has no external reset button. but it has a reset button.
take the modem's front side up and the back side towards u. u will find a hole on the top corner of extreme right. near the modem stand.just insert a pin and press the button while the modem is on. thene restart the modem.. now you can access your modem [192.168.1.1]
nothing about the reset button is written any where in the modem. i have opened the modem and got that button there..
