Default Upload speed in 512 Kbps Ulimited plan

Got the 512 Kbps unliimited plan yesterday. I am getting upload speed of just 128 Kbps in speed test. Is this normal in 512 Kbps plan. My modem is Ut starcom Wa3002 g1 . In the modem settings page the upstream speed is given as only 256 Kbps though the downstream speed is given as 2048 Kbps. your comments on this are welcomed.

please confirm is it 128 kilo bytes or 128 kilo bits. as you said Kbps it means kilo bits, if that is the case then its very slow speed you should get around 512 kilo bits/sec ....
if you are getting 128 Kilo bytes then you are more than lucky ... use it...
as per usual broadband plan 512Kbps line gives 64 KBps as the upload speed...

in any of the cases just try to post the speed tests done at speedtests.net from both servers of mumbai once and then sydney also.....

The speeds are in Kilobits only. The speed test result is in the attachment

Thanks for the prompt reply. Does the modem settings has anything to do with the upload speed?

I don't think it will change much with changing of modem settings.

ah i am not sure about the SNR value i think there is some disturbance in your line please call the line men and ask him to check the line for problems and you also confirm that have you made the connection properly...ie
line to splitter, in splitter ADSL to modem and other to the telephone.
pick up your handset and hear if you are getting any disturbance ..... if so then dont hesitate to call the line men....
here is my SNR values.... so compare them for a referral....

although mine is not 512 unlimited i know as my friends have it .. the average speed is 60kBps for both upload & download.....

Ok, i will check with the line man. What do you think of the upstream rate , Its given as only 256Kbps in the modem settings page , Do you think it has to be changed to 512 Kbps , if so can we do it ourself or do i have to get a new modem . I am really confused

BSNL is known to give away varying upload speeds. Some subscribers get to enjoy 512kbps while some get to enjoy 256kbps only. And for 512kbps UL plan, the upload speed is 256 kbps.

Ok, what's bothering me here is that whether the upload speed is limited by BSNL exchange itselves or the speed is limited because the upstream rate is only 256 Kbps in the modem settings page. Let me put it straight, Is it because of the modem or because of the bsnl exchange. please enlighten me on this . Thanks

please someone kindly answer to my question :crying:..

Well then i have to ask the people in BSNL exchange as to why my upload speed is less, though i dont expect an answer from them. If only airtel didn't implement speed cap in their unlimited plans , i would have switched to airtel.

    @ shanmumanoj

I also used to got confused with these things but soon i sorted it out using google's help!
Well if you are having say like 512Kbps connection then it means your internet speed from exchange is 512Kbps and in the Modem Status page it shows Down-stream & Up-stream Line Rate that means the speed of your data line opened to you from exchange!!
So if you are having 512Kbps internet connection and they have set line rate say 288kbps then you will get around 256kbps.

    @ Others

Can any one tell me what is the Up-stream line rate for a 512Kbps (Down/Up) internet connection, right now mine is Down-stream is at 576kbps & Up-stream is at 517Kbps!

udit247 If you are in 512Kbps then your Down streem line rate what you have now 512Kbps not a problem. I think it will be better if you set your Router to G.DMT mode. It will increase your Downstreem Line rate if your port in DSLAM in your Exchange set to higher speed then 512Kbps.
There is no mention in BSNL plan what will be the Upload speed for UL 512Kbps. Users are getting deferent level of speed.

upload speed is usually 1/4 the download .. but i guess for 256kbps is synchronous
