Thread: utorrent, after resetting conection, it fails to open the port, pls help

Somebody please help, i am really annoyed by this

I have utorrent. I made the proper port settings and all. I have a speed of 25-30kBps. Everything is ok,BUT when i switch off net, then the green icon vanishes and "no incoming messages" is displayed.i switched off the firewall and on. i removed the exceptions and replaced it, i deleted the exceptions and replaced it, i changed the scope and replaced it, i restarted the utorrent. All this do not work. Occasionally somehow it manages to go back to the green icon and everything is ok. I think it is unchecking and checking the exception list. Not sure. Most of the time, i fail to restore the connection. Tried everything i know. Please help me out. I will be very very thankful.

What do u mean by switch off the net? Do u disconnect the connection? Then utorrent will stop downloading..

Please check your torrent FAQ where you can get some answer and also try to install utorrent again

Thanks friends. See, my ups do not support backup for modem. When there is a power failure, the modem is switched off. The internet connection is cut. Now when the connection is restored, utorrrent doesn't seem to work(it was perfectly ok before). The green indicator is replaced by an error (it is shown as an orange triangle) and it says

"no incoming connections.Unless the icon turns green, it could indicate a problem with your network configuration".

Please tell me what to do.

When the power returns, is the connection with BSNL established? How have u configured the connection? Bridged or pppoe mode?

sorry i forgot to mention. I have already downloaded 97% of the file. Now it seems the port is not open. "Error! Port 28365 does not appear to be open"

i have made no changes in the default connection settings by bsnl. everything else is alright. All other programs can access internet without trouble.

Are u able to use the connection as soon as u switch on the modem? Or do u manually dial out the connection?

Also always use a port higher than 50000, say 51000 as the default port in utorrent !!

had a similar problem using bittorrent client....

In Bittorrent (and Utorrent), Go to Options > Preferences > Connection and specify a port in Port used for incoming connections (say port 18930), and keep only NAT-PMP port mapping & add Windows Firewall exception checked and select OK.

Log in to your modem & go to Vitual Server setting (or Services) setting
and specify name of the program (utorrent), ur modem's IP, the port u specified in utorrent, protocol type as TCP/UDP (some modems have it as Both), connection set to always.

Apply the settings and reboot your modem.

In this way the program will not start with a random port each time, and u will have reserved the port to be used only by utorrent.

Give it a try...

Please tell me how to log in to the modem. I use BSNL broadband UL750 256kbps. My modem is siemens c2110. I am home and do not have a router.

My random port selection is already unchecked. And also a tip for you all, never enable UPnP and NAT-PMP. I made all the downloads by disabling it. I have already completed 1 100%download till date. Enabling these features pose a serious security threat(reliable sources).

Actually i followed your instructions and deleted utorrent from exceptions. I used add program and again included it, used add port to configure port 51000 again it showed the same error symbol

And cool techie, i can use the connection normally after reset. I didn't make any manual interference .No other programs except utorrent show an error.

Just restart utorrent after u switch on the modem again...
try to have a power backup 4 ur modem also.. otherwise these sort of power failures can easily ruin ur modem...

i tried restarting the utorrent. somehow it doesnt work. it fails to detect the port after reset. the same thing happen after restarting the computer. it detecets the settings and download if we restart the computer or modem, it fails to open the port, i used 28365 and 51000. both show the same problem.

pls let me know if there is a way out.

I too had this problem in the past..
I tried to boot the modem without utorrent on..
after the connection was established, i started utorrent..

It is very important to setup a static ip address, if you are going to use port forwarding. When you have port forwarding setup, your router
forwards ports to an ip address that you specify. This will probably work when you initially set it up, but after restarting your computer it may get a different ip address. When this happens the ports will no longer be forwarded to your computer's ip address. So the port forwarding configuration will not work.
