    Default Hi All !

    Hi,

A big hello to all the members from me ! have been checking this forum from a very long time and finally decided to Join !

Am a mainly into Audio and DIY and Am mostly in those forums (Am mod in some aswell) !

But since Am also into this (hardware and stuff Having worked in this field) so thought to join !

Anyways I need some suggestions from you guys on the Modem !!

I have facing frequent disconnections from past one year and repeated complaint to the BSNL folks have had no effect :15:! The problem started when they for some strange reason terminated my BB connection without my notice ! then after my complaints and fights with them the connection was restored ! but what happened was they changed my line from NIB 1 (59 series) to NIB 2 (117 series) and from P2 to M2 !

Recently after me threatening the Outdoor Engineer that I will cancel the connection and have a word with the Area manager, they said it was a problem of modem and asked me to purchase a new one as my old one was also of the same type not rental (where they can replace a faulty modem for free) ! so I did though I knew its not going to solve the problem,I went for a type II (ITI DNA wireless modem) !!

Now once I installed it,as expected no change in the working of the net !! but what is the main cause of worry is the wireless coverage range ! they say its 100mtrs !! but its not working even 10feet range properly ! I have a HTC WIFI Mobile and try to acess the net it fails if I leave the room and go to any other room in the house !

So I went to BSNL and blasted them for both (the main problem of frequent disconnections and the useless range of wireless ) so they are asking to me give the modem back !

So I just want you guys who have used this and other wireless stuff suggest me whether to keep this modem ( as its the cheapest and now Am getting it at a 50% discount offer ) or go for a thrid party modem like Belkin,Netgear,Dlink etc etc ! there is also this new company from Bangalore which has some stuff at a bit cheaper price !

Another reason for me wanting to keep it apart from the price is the fact that it uses standard Braodcom's Chips and the other use ! the broad itself is not bad as its made by semindia using these chips ( I guess ITI only puts into a plastic box and packs it as their's )

    Check the link below !

    AmpleBit

Let me make it clear,I don't mind going for a new modem even though the old one is working fine as I need wireless connectivity ! So please suggest !

    My Sys is as follows
    CPU : AMD 2600+ Sempron
    M/B : Asrock
    HDD : 40Gb
    OS: Vista Sp1
    Modem 1 : Huawei MT882
    Modem 2 : ITI DNA-A211-I (updated with the Semindia's 5th march SW )

Please do give me some suggestions urgently as Iam supposed to return the new modem in a day or two !

Sorry for making this very big post !!

    Regards.

    Hi mate

    welcome to Indiabroadband Forum

As you said you are facing problem with BSNL so i suggest you to meet your area manager once and tell him the story so that he/she can help you in this case. Apart from this as you are talking about Type II modem so would like to tell you that they claim 100mtrs but the actual good signal strength remains within 20mtrs only, there are number of factors which can affect wireless coverage and in idle home environment we don't get proper signal strength after 20mtrs.

For your disconnection please check and update if only your wireless is giving you disconnection problem or the internet connection is dropping on main computer too (in wired connection)

    Hope it will help you

    Default Thanks !

    Hi,

Thanks a lot Vibes for welcoming me !

As with talking to the Area Manager is concerned, the Secretary of her is a major pain:53: won't allow anyone to meet the AM so easily ! tried to contact her several times but never really got a chance to :stuart:!!

Coming to Wireless, the range is obviously not 100Mtrs that for sure ! but as you say its not even 20mtrs ! as I said in my post if I go to another room from the comp room (where the wireless Router is fixed) the signal is lost or a very very weak useless signal ( network identified but keeps trying to connect forever ) and this is only say 10Feet which essentially 3.3mtrs !!

So thats why I asked whether all the modems have the same range as this particular modem ( I had also tried the UTStarcom's modem with same result ) or is it advisable to go for a different make as I listed in my earlier post ???

The frequent disconnections occurs even in the wired connection (LAN ) so that has nothing to do with the wireless ! SNR is too low most of the times which what I Guess is the root cause of this problem (too much noise in the line or a faulty port at the exchange ) ! It always varies in the 6-10dB range and hardly crosses it !

Am sorry if I sound rude ! but you didn't answer my main question !! Should I keep this modem (ITI DNA ) or should I return it ??? please please answer this urgently as I don't have too much to wait (if I don't return it by tomorrow then I have to keep it ) !!

Hoping get a reply soon !!

    Regards.

Should I keep this modem (ITI DNA

Be brief. Exactly what is your problem with BSNL
    broadband connection ?
Post ADSL data for checking your connection.

What ever additional technical data you have posted,
has no relation to the problem at hand,
    rather to show your
    wide knowledge of the subject.

Will desist users ( novices like me ) trying to
    suggest ""down to earth"
solutions ( which is learnt the hard way by
    trial and error
and from contributions in this forum etc ).

Rather I expect you to suggest and help new users
    with / without Broadband/computer/chipset / etc experience.

    Hi,

Esbee Thanks for replying to my post !

Now I may be New to this particular forum but not to the forum culture or the likes !

I will refrain from commenting on your post as I have some posting policies :yinyang:!

Having said that I don't really understand what's my big mistake that invoked such reply from you !!

Will desist users ( novices like me ) trying to
    suggest ""down to earth"
solutions ( which is learnt the hard way by
    trial and error
and from contributions in this forum etc ).
what comment of mine made you think of yourself as above ? why should any part of my post be considered as so out of the world and stuff that you are talking bout down to earth and what not solutions !!

Anyways different people different view point !

I said exactly what I had to and wanted to,so if someone thinks differently then I cannot help !!

Now again I will repeat my problem so you and other of the same kind who think I was not brief !

My problem is,Whether I should keep the ITI DNA modem or should I return it and go for a another make ( as said before,LINK SYS,DELINK,BELKIN,AEKOO etc) ? this again is only for the wireless range (which according to me is very less in ITI DNA) ?

So please suggest some solution for this !

The other problem is frequent disconnections, for which I have clearly said it could be due to the heavy noise and other problems in the line as SNR never raises above 10dB and Attenuation also is in the same range ! if Screen shot is the only way to ascertain things then will post it tomorrow !

    Regards.
