Default Ethernet port working for laptop, not for desktop

Hello,

I got a bsnl connection recently. Modem given to me is UtStarCom WA3002G4 which has 4 ethernet ports and 1 wireless port. When i connect to it using laptop (Windows Vista) I can connect with ethernet and wireless too but when i try to connect using the desktop(windows xp) speeds are very very slow. Even the 192.168.1.1 page is taking lot of time to load, when it does the menu of the left is missing.
I created a pppoe network connection on the desktop, but this time i am getting "line is busy" error. Pages are loading in spite of that but the speed is very much unusable.
DHCP is enabled in the modem/router.
Do i have to install any drivers etc on the desktop or any configuration changes...?

Thank you.

In Desktop
Start/ Network LAN properties
TCP/IP properties
Select Obtain Ip address automatically.
IN DNS
enter
208.67.220.220 and
208.67.222.222
click advanced
and enter existing DNS for ref .
SAVE apply.
Feedback.

No luck with that.
I tried tracert with and without the dns addresses, there wasn't much of a difference in speed. I observed the avg update process. It started off at about 1500 bytes/sec and dropped until it reached 20bytes/sec.
I am able to use sify connection with same lan card without any problem. Is there a possibility of the sify client playing spoil sport?

1.Common Modem WA3002-g4 for both VISTA and XP.
Speed ok with VISTA/
LAN card and wireless card settings are OK .

2.If problem is when working with XP
Probably the Ethernet card drivers are not matching
for XP. Mention card details.

3.Check up in Device Manager. in Both Vista and XP.
copy drivers from Vista If compatible
or update drivers for XP/in XP OS mode.,

Using sify with XP. (XP on desktop is the one that is giving the trouble).
Modem/router doesn't come into picture with sify. It is cable based. I plug in the cable into the ethernet card and change the ip and dns settings and it works fine. When i switch to bsnl, i change the ip and dns settings to "obtain ip automatically"

I will give it a try. Thanks for your patience.

That download link is not working. Do you think that a new lan card might solve the problem?

I got it working by changing configuration settings for the adapter. I changed the connection-type to "10BaseT Full Duplex" from "Auto negotiation".
Here is the step by step process.
Start > Control Panel > Network and internet connections > Network connections.
Right click the concerned network connection icon and select properties.
Click the button with name "configure". A new window will open with several tabs.
Select the advanced tab. You will find several values under 'properties' heading.
Select "Connection type". Select "10BaseT Full Duplex" from the values drop down.

Thanks @Essbebe

Yes, sify is also working. My friend who gave me that suggestion deserves the credit more than me.

Nice of you for mentioning about your friend's help.
Persuade him to join this Forum too! we can also benefit ..

The info that the LAN ethernetcard was working in SIFY
but not in BSNL I missed the point./tweak.
Rarely this tweak in Ethernet card is mentioned.
There are some more options.( leave them alone for the present )
