My connection is 20 days old
    Plan - Home 500C
    Modem - Siemens SL2_141(type II)
although I applied for type I (1000 Rs. ) but they gave me type II (1600 Rs.) for the same price!! Yes...that's true because type I was out of stock.Babus at the BSNL office don't even care because nothing is going from thier pocket. I don't need wifi now so I have turned it off .

I got my BSNL Broad Band connection in Oct 2007. Initially the Plan was Home 250. Later on I opted for 750 UL + which I am still using.

If you go through this thread, you will have a fair idea about popular modems/plans. Also contradictory to the general belief a lot of users had stayed more than one year on BSNL. It assures you BSNL is not bad as many thinks. We have IPTV section, you can start a survey yourselves.

Started with Home 500 plan in May 2005.... still going strong.
Switched from BSNL's Huawei MT880 modem (was making my life hell!) to Netgear DG834G

Now planning to switch to Home 1000 / UL 750 / UL 1350

I had to wait for 3 months to get broadband connection. Actually i got my modem in July 2005 but due to technical problem in BSNL, I wasnt getting link. I had to call / visit BSNL officers at various levels, many times but finally I got issue resolved & started using connection since oct 2005. Surprisingly, the officer who finally looked in my prob was very co-operative & he also cleared our billing issue. After that i had no problem in either billing or technical things except last year. But at that time also i got my problem resolved in just two hours after complaint. So if i ignore first few moths till i get connection, I am satisfied. my modem is Sterlite Smart AX 882 & I am using Linksys router.

I had a 36.6 kbps dialup modem early on, around 1998 ... used for a few years.

Then moved to Reliance R-connect, now called Net-connect... at 144 kbps.. from 2002 to 2005 or so

In 2005, got BSNL Home 250 plan, which I recently changed to Home 1350. May change back to Home 500 or something in the near future

Got the HuaWei WA1003A for the entire period, still works (fingers crossed)

Got many good and bad experiences with BSNL, but overall its been great. Mainly because it removed the shackles of "time-based billing", and gave us flexible options like moving on to WiFi setups, LAN connection sharing etc etc.

    Default Internet for ever....

    Hi,

    I am from bangalore
I had internet connection from 2002. Started off with VSNL dial up connection. We used to have free usage from 11:00 pm to morning 8:00 AM (I think) which i used to exploit for downloading stuff ... .

Once BSNL brought the broadband connection I upgraded to it, in Jun 2005 if i remember correctly. The Rs.500 plan with 1gb limit. Then later on moved to Rs.900 unlimited plan when the phone bill started to scare my parents.

I always got good speed (download speed up 200kbps) and never faced any issues. Hnece never thought of switching providers.

In Nov 2007 I went to US and hence the usage came down so my parents switched the plan back to Rs.500. Upon my return few months back in 2009 I got the UL750 plus plan.

Now i am getting very slow download speed. Browsing is OK but downloading is a pain. Hope BSNL upgrades to better speed (2 MBPS) soon.

    Regards,
    Sandeep

I have had Airtel Broadband 1mbps unlimited downloads since 2007.

Pretty happy with it, customer service is remarkable. I am thinking of migrating to WIRELESS MODEM.
