    Question Online games lag in bsnl

    Hi,
    Im from bangalore, using airtel broadband. I host a Counter strike server, and the other aritel users dont have any lags (ping < 150 ms) when they join from wherever in india.
    They have a latency of 150 ms or less.
    But when the bangalore bsnl users connect they have latency of 400ms or more. I just tried trace route and it goes to san franscico US before connecting to them. This is the one of the nodes from traceroute

    7 4.78.196.21 so-4-0-1.edge1.LosAngeles1.Level3.net 1 1 297 ms 297 ms 297 ms 297 ms 0.000%

    Doesnt this meant that the bsnl users connect to my aritel pc through the US server ? can this be avoided to reduce the latency ??
    Does setting the dns server which is in bangalore for bsnl users help ??
    If so can someone tell the dns servers of bsnl in bangalore ?

    Thank you..

    I have only one answer -

    BSNL sucks for ONLINE gaming... Latency is always high!

    P.S.- I was a CS player once.

    For me its worse... I even get high ping on Google.com ... the average i get is around 380ms !! I am under BSNL's 256K speed broadband.. is the latency high because of this? Or is there anyway I can change some MTU details to lower ping? Does ping times depend on the DNS server used? I use openDNS's servers instead of BSNL's automatic DNS.

    No need to wake up early. You can automate the whole process. Using a scheduler and one click hosting downloaders like cryptload.

    Hi,

    I am from Bangalore and I just started playing World of Warcraft after a long gap and the latencies that i get in the game are driving me completely mad. It is impossible to play the game like this. I am currently using the BSNL UL750 plan and my latencies typically range anywhere between 3000-5000ms. It also stayed at 27000ms for a good 10 mins this afternoon.

    My wow server is at frankfurt and when i ran tracert, it is pinging to locations like san jose and mexico city before it times out. I tried several latency fixes, reinstalled windows 7, even went back to windows xp and i still get the same latency. I dont have any problems when i download something, i average 55-65, 95% of the time, its just the latency that i am having a problem with.

    Is there anything that i can do other than switching internet providers? please help!!

    Please make sure you aren't downloading anything while playing.
    Make sure any other app in the PC is using the bandwidth while you are trying to connect... Put the game into lowest resolution and graphic quality, or browse in "happy hours"(I mean hours when less people are using internet)
    The ultimate way is to change to a faster plan.

    I'd recommend trying anything else than BSNL.. are you on BSNL's evdo anyway? (wireless one)

    @sravan
    * This computer that i built is for WoW alone, hence no other programs run in the background. Dont have any P2P softwares installed.
    * tried setting the game to the lowest settings, didnt help one bit.
    * I dont mind switching to a faster plan but if bsnl are going to ping me to places like US, mexico before ending at europe there is no point at all. And WoW doesn't really require a high speed connection.

    @power-inside
    * No i am not using evdo

    But yesterday i tried playing it at around 2AM and my latencies were at 300ms. I am guessing its got to do with the high traffic during the day? I stay at BTM 2nd stage if that helps.

    I am considering moving to airtel now.

    Attached a screenshot with the latency in the game at about 7PM today.

    All broadband in india sucks super hard...see other country's having 100 mbps and moving to 1 gbps we still sucks at 512 kbps....

    We mus take a revolutionary step towards it... We need at least 50 mbps at 500 / month... Its a need of india....
